You're going to bleed.

Do it neatly and politely on the red carpet so you won't get stains on the floor that the help will have to clean up later

Good interpretation Rufus. You and Mitch get an "A" in literature comprehension.

Back in the age of fighting sailing ships the British used to paint the inside walls of their gun decks red to hide the blood. Before battle the decks were covered with sand to prevent the sailors from slipping in the gore.
You begin flying with a full bag of luck and an empty bag for experience. The object is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Here's a red paint story. My grandfather retired from the Frankford Arsenal. When it was a guy's last day. He would take the newest guy through the door to help out. Around 3:00 he would find the newbie. bring down to the proving room and show him "the ropes" Both guys would push a cart with some explosives into the proving room. The newbie would have no clue as to what was on the cart. hidden away would be a thawed turkey and a bag of flour with a pint of red paint jammed into it. The guy retiring would be chatting up how his retirement will go, trips, grand kids ,fishing and the whole nine yards. He then would say ok kid go out the front door. I'll leave through the side door after i fix the detonation wire. He would also tell the kid" Not to worry about the safety latch on the side door. It has been broken for weeks" I don't need to be buzzed out. The kid would leave. Then the old guy would place his helmet, apron and boots on the cart. He would slip out the side door and somebody would motion to blow up the bomb. after the rumble a fellow worker would walk by and say " Hay the bean counters up stairs gave me the parts for our side door. So it's fixed and now you need to be buzzed out." Always the newbie would turn ghost white and run into see what had happened. There would be bits of turkey and red flour all over the wall along with boot pieces and a torn apron. After a lot of finger pointing and oh my god on the day he was retiring. They would send the newbie up stairs to tell the head what had happened. Only to find the out going guy sitting in front of a sheet cake waiting for the rest to come up and say "good bye"

webenda wrote:The Agamemnon story goes something like this:
Agamemnon returns from the Trojan war to Mycenae in glory with his war prize Cassandra (Trojan King Priam’s daughter.)
Agamemnon's wife Clytemnestra orders a carpet of purple robes spread in front of him to honor his return as he enters the palace.
Agamemnon and Cassandra walk on the Royal Purple carpet and enter the palace.
Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthus, kill Agamemnon and Cassandra.

So it was the railroads that started the practice of greeting important personages, as they disembarked from First Class and entered the station, with a red carpet rolled out for them on the pavement?

Cassandra is Priam's soothsayer, captured in the fall of Troy. She has the gift of being able to see the future and the curse of not being believed.

Oh and there's a good reason Klytemnestra wants to kill Agamemnon. Ten years prior, in order to get the gods' favor to sail the assembled fleet to Troy, he sacrificed their 8 year old daughter, Iphenegia. Yeah, she's pissed!
