Here's a red paint story. My grandfather retired from the Frankford Arsenal. When it was a guy's last day. He would take the newest guy through the door to help out. Around 3:00 he would find the newbie. bring down to the proving room and show him "the ropes" Both guys would push a cart with some explosives into the proving room. The newbie would have no clue as to what was on the cart. hidden away would be a thawed turkey and a bag of flour with a pint of red paint jammed into it. The guy retiring would be chatting up how his retirement will go, trips, grand kids ,fishing and the whole nine yards. He then would say ok kid go out the front door. I'll leave through the side door after i fix the detonation wire. He would also tell the kid" Not to worry about the safety latch on the side door. It has been broken for weeks" I don't need to be buzzed out. The kid would leave. Then the old guy would place his helmet, apron and boots on the cart. He would slip out the side door and somebody would motion to blow up the bomb. after the rumble a fellow worker would walk by and say " Hay the bean counters up stairs gave me the parts for our side door. So it's fixed and now you need to be buzzed out." Always the newbie would turn ghost white and run into see what had happened. There would be bits of turkey and red flour all over the wall along with boot pieces and a torn apron. After a lot of finger pointing and oh my god on the day he was retiring. They would send the newbie up stairs to tell the head what had happened. Only to find the out going guy sitting in front of a sheet cake waiting for the rest to come up and say "good bye"
