The Agamemnon story goes something like this:
Agamemnon returns from the Trojan war to Mycenae in glory with his war prize Cassandra (Trojan King Priam’s daughter.)
Agamemnon's wife Clytemnestra orders a carpet of purple robes spread in front of him to honor his return as he enters the palace.
Agamemnon and Cassandra walk on the Royal Purple carpet and enter the palace.
Clytemnestra and her lover, Aegisthus, kill Agamemnon and Cassandra.
So it was the railroads that started the practice of greeting important personages, as they disembarked from First Class and entered the station, with a red carpet rolled out for them on the pavement?
What message were they sending to the "important personages?"
