I just got my namesake back on the road after a 9 year slumber. The Norton National Rally is next week near Wellsboro, PA. The chrome fame in the pic has been replaced with a new silver powder coated one after the chrome frame rusted through.

Dirt, its a 1971. Bought it new but have changed many things over the years. In '72 I added the front disks and in '83 I rebuilt the bike and replaced the rear drum with the disk brake from a '75 Norton. Also replaced a lot of the steel parts with aluminum.
Rode it cross country in '72 and many other trips over the years.
It needs to be repainted now. The gas tank is fiberglass and the ethanol gas had start started to eat its way through the tank. Its sealed now but the paint has been damaged. Next winter for that.

The Norton rally runs from this Monday to Friday when everyone packs up and heads out. They've been doing it this way for a while. It allows folks to travel on the weekends and only miss a week of work. Also it dovetails with Mid-Ohio (racetrack) Vintage Days next weekend which is the largest event for vintage bikes east of the Mississippi, if not the country.

Thanks guys. I didn't build it to be a show bike but one I could ride and increase the reliability. Not sure how well I succeeded on the second point though. It is what it is, a 37 year old bike based on '40s technology.

Kinda of like trying to make a 2046 into 3rd Rail scale hudson.

Andre, Trying to keep up with my 5 year old son all weekend!!!! I haven't even made it out to the train room for any work!! Plus I've got all the electronics to put in the 4-12-2 for EOB and proper 3 cylinder chuff, but there she sits in the box waiting for a more opportune time. From a dad's perpective, that stuff will be there when I can get to it- kid's can't wait!!!!! Is it 12:00 somewhere yet?

What a race! I'd say both Stoner and Rossi are pretty well hung but I think Rossi psyched him out this time, not giving an inch. I'd guess win or lose, Stoner could still have his pick of those beauties.

Naaa, Pete! About the 9th to the last lap Stoner got a chance to pull up along side Rossi and gunned the Duc for all it was worth. "fizzle, Fizzle". No match for the Yamaha this day.
