Some years back I had the pleasure(?) of making a trip to Kyoto, Japan. After a few days of long hours my hosts took me to this little restaurant for a late dinner. They ordered this fancy platter, shaped like a little fishing boat, and I swear that if it walked, crawled or swam in the ocean it was on that platter. Beautiful presentation however I like my seafood beer battered and deep fried. But then after a few glasses of chilled saki almost anything tastes OK.
Believe it or not, the worst Sushi I ever had was in Tokyo. Not just one experience, but everywhere. Bad to the bone. They got me to eat uni and I thought it looked like baby shit. They kept saying "Nice Taste?" "Nice Taste?" The Japanese tradition is that you buy liter bottles and pour for everyone else. Nice custom. So what can you say to guys who are loading you with as much Sapphoro as you want? Cute Japanese officeladys sit next to you to practice their English, laugh and smile at everything you say, the guys are pouring more beer than you could imagine, and there's the uni. What's a hobo to do?
