As the literacy rate declines, you’ll ask yourself why the quality of life continues to deteriorate in ways large and small, and in almost every instance the answer will be: because people stopped reading.

That’s some serious machinery, something a person would not want to ever get caught under or among .

I believe the last year I went to Rough & Tumble (steam show at Kinzers, just east of Lancaster), I spent about 45 minutes or so watching operators threshing wheat on a machine that was 100 years old. Large belt running off the steam tractor and that thresher was huge, I would say 20 feet long and quite tall and wide, but the seed emptied into burlap sacks on one side and the chaff exited, (IIR), from the rear. Amazing technology thought up and brought about with only the human brain and a pencil & paper the only tools used to create that invention. Eat your heart out, Bill Gates. :!:

Might have been a few carpenters, machinists, and mechanical engineers involved in that creation process.......

I thought that my post actually covered the mechanical engineers without so stating. Forgive me for leaving out the actual builders.

Planners and designers are important! But those guys that actually have to make the parts, put them together, and then make it all really work....don't get enough credit then or now.

The cemetery pictured at the bottom seems very similar to one I visited before a trainshow in Hamburg, PA. several years ago .
It was the first time I had ever seen a couple of those one-chamber stone mausoleums which still had a slim chain going from inside a coffin, inside, out thru one of its walls and connected on the outside to a bell mounted on its outside masonry .

The current bridge (at least when I last saw it some years back) still uses those piers, as I recall.

That looks too clean to be in service, maybe a "finished construction" photo?
