Got a recommendation for a decent drill press? 1/2" max drill is adequate for me.....

Re: Got wood?
find a used on on craigslist. I have found a few in garage sales. All of the ones i bought in garage sales get parted out on eBay. It's hard to believe what people will pay for 80 old parts. Yet they wont pay $10. for the whole drill press.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

A used one is fine, but a good used one is better. I have a used one - used by me for 40 years and other before that when my father bought in the 70's.

Greg, my Vega fence has two lockdowns. You can lock the right side down and with a finger wheel on a fine threaded rod you micro adjust, then lock down the main fence. Thinkin' maybe this winter I'm gonna build a new top for my router station and install the original Jet fence from the table saw on there. Although very accurate if you take a lot of time to adjust the homemade box fence, I think it would be a time saver to put on a fence that's sitting around unused.
Your table saw is PowerMatic? Totally out of my league, (and price range). Powermatic is to Jet as Cadillac is to Cavalier! Both made by the same companies but the higher end units are quite a bit better.

Craftsman is pretty good. Hard to screw up a drill press, so most anything new or used should be good. How about Rigid or Grizzly? Grizzly used to carry a benchtop that could also drill @ a 45 degree angle, but I don''t get their catalogs anymore so I gave up on them. It's all China made.

Okay....it's not that I use my large drill press a lot but when I need it, I need it. The current one is just worn down.

Re: Got wood?
I assume you are just wanting a light duty bench top drill press. Along with my Enco made in Japan heavy duty that I bought back in the early 70s I have 2 of the light duty bench top drill press that I use. All of these have the rack and pinion wind up tables that is a real benefit for adjusting the drill table up and down. One is a black and decker Firestorm. It has an attached light that is very useful. The other is a skill. It has a laser the cross hairs the the drill point. Can't say it's really that important and it has batteries to operate it.
There are others that are very similar. Harbor freight has one along with lowe's has a porter cable and it looks like home depot has a Ryobi or Wen. It looks like all of these are under $200 dollars.
You can get one with out the rack and pinion sometimes less than a hundred dollars But I won't have one without the rack and pinion. I"M to spolled by using those.

Something to file away on the shopping criteria.

Your table saw is PowerMatic?
Delta Unisaw with a 54” Beisemeyer Fence. Does everything I’ll ever need it to do.
