The Modelers Thread
Re: The Modelers Thread
I hope Murph wont mind me saying that he did quite well at the York TCA shows for sometime.
I was only at York one time and I went by Murphs exhibit several times. I think every piece he
sold was different, one of a kind. I thought his stuff was amazing. I think he always sold out.
Maybe he will tell more.
He may also have done some mail order and knew how to pack stuff.

Re: The Modelers Thread
That looks interesting Greg. I've seen some great paper models over the years, some fairly simple, some horrifically complex. I'm working toward this, a paper model of SMS Kron Prinz in 1/200:

I've built a few tanks and airplanes, and they are tough. This actually looks a bit easier. Should be about four feet long when done. I just wish I could read Polish...
Re: The Modelers Thread
That looks pretty intense, I had no idea paper models could be so involved. Maybe there are some Polacks here on MTJ that can help with the instructions

I don’t think those steps off the back-door are up to code, lol.

They can get seriously tedious, but they give identity to the scene about the structure. I'm working on a large house right now that's taking me too long to paint.

Thinking I can make up the rise on the bottom with some terrain.

....None of the steps are set just yet although I had a little rise problem following the stringer templates. I attached a bottom plate to the bottom of the bottom tread to make up some of the rise.

I just place (glue) some foundation stones under the ends of the stairs to bring them up to level.

I had to go back and look at the kit-box to recall what this building was intended to be - a miners’ cabin. Looking at it, as Roger said, it seems it could fill in for a number of things, a bunkhouse, a railroad office, even a small station, perhaps. Do you have a mining operation modeled on the layout?

Re: The Modelers Thread
Making a little progress getting the doors hinged up; the clutch of tank cars, a big house, and a few square feet of RTV molds with 2 lbs of resin to use have been distracting me.

No but I will have a little On30 logging operation incorporated into the O gauge part of the layout.

It doesn’t take much, but you lost me here?

I have 4 tanks cars being scratchbuilt on 1 bench; 3 are getting close to being moved to the painting queue. Warmer weather,
I have a large house being scratchbuilt on another work space; 1st coat of primary color done; 2nd coat this week and then the 2 trim colors.....tedious,
About 4 square feet of RTV molds on another work space that I actually need to add 2 more mold to so I can use them all for pouring resin (2 lbs of resin waiting to be mixed and used), orders in and should maybe fill them,
It's a bit of distraction from the MoW car projekt.

It sounds like a commercial operation. Would it add another layer of stress for you to share pictures? If so, please do

Commercial? Well, sort of, kind of, maybe, as I do convert many to articles and then try to sell off most.
Ummmmm......photos.....for some I can. The house is for an article and has been in the background for a few years, so I have to be circumspect. This seemed like a good year to tackle it.
BTW, I've done several other buildings beyond that one line side shed. That one and the next 3-5 will go off to the regional NMRA publication. The MoW cars get written up for other NMRA publications.
I've just got to get some of the tank car projects cleared into the warm weather paint queue just to make room for other projects.
