What makes you think the republicans have anything to do with this. There is a supply line problem because food processing facilities are shut down. This is what just in time processing can do to you when you have a major disruption.

Like cows have to be milked every day. Processing facilities can't take it and there were never provisions for storage. The dairy farmers can't process it and ship to the markets. So unfortunately a lot of it is getting dumped.

This 30-40% wastage was figured, before the pandemic. I expect it will be much worse, this year.

The Republicans are the party of rich psychopaths, and Christian supremacists. Rich psychopaths don't care about depressions, famine, or war. Sometimes, they even profit from them. Christian supremacists don't even care what's in their own Bible. Joseph was in charge of storing Egyptian grain for drought and famine years. But, that's in the Old Testament. Don't ask me why they have always allied themselves with the worst of the rich and powerful. Maybe, it's their belief in a God that suffers multiple personality disorder. And, that He personally chooses sovereigns. They talk a lot about saints who feed the poor and tend the sick but, institutionally, they keep people barefoot and pregnant.

Come up with a solution other than shutting down while waiting for a vaccine a year or more down the line.

We are not going to reach herd immunity any time soon especially by shutting down and possibly never anyway. Those who are flattening the curve now will have numbers rise when they reopen. Expect it. Expect to get the virus at some time along with 70%-80% of the population unless you lock yourself up for a very long time until a vaccine comes along. The virus isn't going away.

Deaths, many deaths will change people's attitudes. When we reach a certain level then people's behaviors will change. The 90,000 dead number is a drop in the bucket to most people now. A million US, 2 million or more, prepare your minds for it. If you need to prepare your mind for the annihilation of mankind, then do that. If we have fewer deaths than that, those who are left can be thankful.

Healthcare workers can do the best they can with what they have. I don't expect any more from them. What did they do in the 2018-2019 pandemic? Prepare your minds for it. This isn't unprecedented yet.

It is a bad pandemic, this is what happens in a bad pandemic. You, me, family and friends all could get sick and die.

You guys have an uncanny way of always looking at the dark side of things. It's time to take a more positive outlook.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Roy. I didn't know I had this problem...

Good thing I got the HELL out of California when I did or this could really be a problem.

Chris I'm just adding to what you posted this is not a critique.

The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the deadliest in history, infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide—about one-third of the planet’s population—and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including some 675,000 Americans. There never was a vaccine for it.

And the American people came roaring back for a decade of prosperity know as the Roaring Twenties

I use the term primarily to indicate a lack of empathy. This is evident in the political and economic philosophies such people embrace. Clearly, not all rich people are like that.

There have been serious changes in our political parties, just in my lifetime. I was born into a world where Democrats were an alignment of Northern liberals and Southern white racists. That ended in 1963, when JFK committed the federal government and his party to civil rights. Until Reagan, neither party wanted anything to do with white racists. His overt appeal to Christian extremists was a dog whistle call to white racists, as well.

And, there were liberals in the Republican party. I've personally benefited from Nixon's federalization of disability benefits, and Section 8 housing. Of course, since Reagan's demonization of liberalism, no self-respecting liberal will have anything to do with the Republicans. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we're so polarized today. I prefer the current situation. You may not be able to totally trust any individual, but when it comes to idealism, you don't take the bad with the good.

If you would like to see a test of stupidity. Look for photos of New jersey shores reopened. Not a good way to kick things off.

So from the 70s you have been a ward of the government. :?: That makes since now.

When I lived in California from the mid 60s to 1980 I worked for Garrett AiResearch renamed in 1968 to Signal Companies
There was always a lot of work available out there. If I may ask where have you been employed :?:

From 1960 I was a JFK liberal. ( Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country ) Never liked Nixon. Didn't vote for him. Many of my high school classmates died in Johnson's war. :( :( :(

I have a brother who is so far out on the right wing he makes you look liberal. He is enjoying full retirements from the military and civil service. I don't believe he has had much to do with the private sector (he did machine O Scale drivers for a while - not a good way to make $).

Many of my airport buddies are also quite conservative, as in not very accepting of government largesse - except at the airport, where your tax dollars pave my runways!

CDC is still reporting under 700 deaths daily. Is it really over? Or have they been ordered to report more conservatively?

One source (didn't copy it) said that total deaths in New York were 50% higher than normal in April. Didn't say whether that was normalized.

That's true for just about everybody I talk to...government needs to cut spending, but don't touch my Social Security, don't touch Medicare, don't touch the ACA, hey, our Interstate needs to be repaved, we need more cops, the school's looking a bit rundown, the hospital needs to be expanded...

Oh, and taxes are way too high...those need to be slashed.

Cut waste and gratuitous no bid contracts. Don’t rob social security for pensions. Cut out expensive political lunches. I could carve up government spending better then a thanksgiving turkey.
