Coronavirus: A third of hospital patients develop dangerous blood clots

Up to 30% of patients who are seriously ill with coronavirus are developing dangerous blood clots, according to medical experts.

They say the clots, also known as thrombosis, could be contributing to the number of people dying.

Severe inflammation in the lungs - a natural response of the body to the virus - is behind their formation.

Patients worldwide are being affected by many medical complications of the virus, some of which can be fatal.

Back in March, as coronavirus was spreading across the globe, doctors started seeing far higher rates of clots in patients admitted to hospital than they would normally expect.

And there have been other surprises, including the discovery of hundreds of micro-clots in the lungs of some patients.

The virus has also increased cases of deep vein thrombosis - blood clots usually found in the leg - which can be life-threatening when fragments break off and move up the body into the lungs, blocking blood vessels.

I'm understanding that even those patients that did not appear seriously ill have lung damage.

The last report I saw on Ky3 news from Springfield said that 55% of the cases in Missouri were in Saint Louis and 75% of the death were also in Saint Louis.

It's clearly correlated with population density

Not in Georgia -- the highest infection rates (number of cases per 100K) are in rural counties.

Dougherty County in rural southwest GA has had 134 fatalities so far and its population is only population 89,500.

Cobb County, the Atlanta suburb where the NMRA national was held a few years ago, has had 132 fatalities and its population is 790,588.

Interesting anomaly.....and it makes me question the validity of the data as it appears a significant outlyer

The criticisms follow a series of policy turnabouts, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s decision to extend the national lockdown. The United States also used the model, which predicted upwards of 2.2 million deaths in the US without proper action. The prediction helped influence the White House to adopt a more serious approach to the pandemic.

Experts have derided the coding from Professor Neil Ferguson, warning that it is a “buggy mess that looks more like a bowl of angel hair pasta than a finely tuned piece of programming.”

“In our commercial reality, we would fire anyone for developing code like this and any business that relied on it to produce software for sale would likely go bust,” David Richards, co-founder of British data technology company WANdisco, told the Daily Telegraph.

I have an idea, lets keep the country locked down for the rest of the year It won't affect me. The house just passed another 3 trillion dollar stimulus. That should take care of the 100 million that will be out of work. And if that is not enough they can add another 10 trillion to that.

It's getting harder for many to survive. I'm working 2 days a week. That wont cut. Hopefully on Tuesday a guy shows up to buy 3 motorcycle projects from. I have had them for a few years and never touched a nut or bolt on them. Time to move them on. I was lucky to have a few thing like that to fall back on. A lot of people don't.
Every other week i take a load of cardboard boxes to a food pantry. They have a line of folks waiting for meals. Its around the 10-11th week of a shutdown here. Most people have not received a dime of unemployment yet. I get the feeling people are so broke they don't give a f**k anymore.
I see places closing up in town. signs saying " call make offer on merchandise. Will meet you for curbside pickup" If the merchant has a 30-60-90 payment plane with a vendor, I'll bet they don't pay. This ripple effect will be like a tsunami.

Letting the facts on the ground determine your policies, rather than having your politics or religion determine your interpretation of reality has a better chance of leading to increased survival and economic viability. Coming up with new conspiracy theories or demented arguments against getting vaccinations is just causing harm to society.
