On the other hand, the closing of all 850 stores may be used to J.C. Penny's advantage.
Reuters reported late Tuesday that J.C. Penney's decision to shutter all of its 850 department stores, while furloughing nearly all of its 95,000 employees, may push the retailer into a Chapter 11 filing that could help it re-finance its near $4 billion in outstanding debts. J.C.
In Chapter 11 cases the debtor receives a discharge when a plan is confirmed by the court. ... A debt that is discharged is a debt for which the debtor is no longer liable if they continue in business.
I think "re-finance" is the wrong term. Unless J.C. Penny liquidates, the dept is discharged.

Maybe they will just get bought by Target. The properties themselves, depending on how much they actually own, might the real remaining value

Penny's made some bad changes years ago. First they thought they could go upscale.
10 years ago they hired a wonder boy from Apple computer as their CEO.

Statistics. Seldom hear about the percentage of people in the US with Covid...just the number of cases.....so looking at the glass that way, the US has the highest number of cases in the world. But, looking at it percentage wise, we did very well. Media always forgets that number because it isn't as dramatic.
