If someone throws a stone at you, throw a flower at them. Remember to throw the flower pot with it.

Homes like that Cunningham Residence, precisely right up against the edge of the sidewalk, certainly afforded passers-by an intimate view directly inside the house if they wanted. I've seen some houses like that in Strasburg, PA, and have found that antique arrangement interesting.

Also, it would seem to me that the Homies and the Hoodies of today would see such an arrangement as opportunity.

We used to have these things called curtains, and shades, and even blinds that were pretty standard in windows facing the public. That's what were in the windows of all the houses that my parents and grandparents owned........and even my house today that is nowhere near the road.

Seems to be the standard......except for the exhibitionists,

I suppose those are maple trees on Maple Street.

We also have blinds and they are opened and closed at appropriate times.
There are many places in our area that never seem to open the blinds.
My wife comments about that.

Some folks like their privacy. Figure in today's world where houses are build horribly close together that windows basically look right into your neighbor's house - curtains and blinds get popular.

The same but different.
Or is this two different buildings with the same plan?
I wonder which is older?

Same building, different angle.

Colorized is the newer card, probably.

There's probably a RPPC of these somewhere as well.

In Maryland there are now laws against allowing cattle into streams and creeks. Seems there's too much poop running into the bay.

Meanwhile, the guy on the bridge is asking "Where's that damn dog?"

All sort of the same in PA. However, it's perfectly fine to have them poop in the fields, and then with rain, run off into the water table.

And here I thought he was playing a game of Pooh-sticks.

Regardless of patina, I think the building, in either picture, looks scary. And forbidding. (But maybe that indicates I've seen too many movies and too much tv. :? )

Reminds you of the asylum all those years ago where you spent all that happy time with Nurse Ratchet?
