Happy Friday!!!

Was a busy week on the railroad!

Picked up 2 new buildings - The Menards passenger station & the Lionel Bucking Feed & Tack building -






I did some scenery work as well, which involved creating the slope near the feed & tack building & covering the rest of the ceiling tile edges with plaster cloth. Also picked up a few items - All LTI & all at really good prices. Got the B&A Hudson & a matching set of NYC passenger cars, WM FF#4 set & finally got myself a J. The kids were very excited about the J!










NS ES44AC 8018 leads an eastbound set of helpers towards Bluefield in Landgraff, WV on the Pokey


NS ES44AC 8144 leads 19G on former Reading rails in Hummelstown, PA.


L&C power works Circle S feeds at Richburg, SC


NS AC44C6M 4106 (ex NS D9-40C NS 8806) is just out of the rebuild shops as it leads a westbound 800 series coal train through Shawsville, VA on the Christiansburg district.


NJT 'Veterans' ALP46A 4635 leads a NY bound local through Red Bank, NJ

Great pics as always Christopher. BTW, I'm still looking for a nice contemporary action shot along the old Lurgan Subdivision (Hummelstown is just a bit too far east )...let me know if you have anything in the archives you think would work.

I like the addition of the milk car in the passenger trains. The real railroads used to run them that way back in the day.

Very seldom seen on a toy train layout. I run them that way also.

I would imagine the kids like the operating cars and accessories. Even some of us big kids like them.

I remember several years back going to some train shows that had operating layout with lots of accessories and buttons to push. That was where the kids spent all their time having a ball making lights flash and bells ring

They do. I wish I had more room to add some. We are stuck with just operating cars, but they still like those.

Four volume "Railway Milk Cars" is a great source of info on the cars and the trains. In some cases the trains were almost completely milk cars with maybe one combine car for passengers and baggage.

Is that the Hells Gate bridge in the photo?

My wife, brother-in-law, and I are fans of old movies with car chases. Recently, we watched The French Connection (1973?), a crime drama. One of the scenes shows a dirt road on Wards(?) Island. In the background is the real Hells Gate Bridge! Another film in that genre is The Seven-Ups. Its final scenes are trackside in NJ and features several photos of a GG-1 (black, PC livery).

Norm's work is amazing! Just a few years back he "re-organized" his old layout. This must be the new incarnation. Pretty spectacular. Can you give us more detail / info?

It's the Lionel re-issue from twenty-five or so years ago. Renumbered as 305, they made it slightly wider than the original, allowing double-tracking for O-gauge.

Norm's layout is pretty spectacular. Nice to see a panoramic view to get a sense of how big his empire is. His skills are exceptional.

I thought the original Hell Gate/Hellgate (?) was double track O but single track standard. ???

I remember seeing Norm's layout in O Scale Trains sometime ago. Sarge was editor then and received many, well at least some, nasty letters about showing 3R trains in a 2R mag. That caused me to write one of the very few letters to an editor that I have written. It was in his support. What was wrong with showing a beautiful layout? It had an extra rail. So what? If the 3R had been outside instead of between the rails it would have been acceptable. Norm's layout can be shown in any context and be seen as a work of art.
At one time I subscribed to or read almost every model rail magazine published. Today I will look over a few in the book store and buy if anything is of interest. I ALWAYS get OST. I like trains of all types and sizes.
