Request For Old PS-1 Boards

Postby 2railjon » Tue Nov 13, 2018 6:22 am

Hey folks! The neighbors boy brought me a couple older Railking engines to try and fix for him. I put in a BCR and did an engine reset chip plus the ridiculous Reset 18 using his Z-500 controller.
The engines power up but won’t cycle in forward or reverse. Just thought I’d see if anyone had some usable boards they could donate. Thanks!

Which loco's? Does it make any sounds on start up? Three clanks of death?

Did you do the "force chip" repair that was required for some of the late model PS-1 units where the "security functions" in the QSI circuits kick in and actually lock the board (aka three clanks of death).

If they aren't wedded to the PS-1 sounds I have a couple of DCRU's they can have for free.

Hi Chuck!
One engine is a Railking NYC Commodore steam engine. I put in a BCR battery and used the chip reset kit where you then set it on the tracks at 18 volts and then re-install the original sound chip. I set it back on the track and it doesn’t respond to any throttle movements. No clanks of any kind.

Sounds like the original sound chip may be bad?

List of loco's requiring a replacement chip from MTH. aka Chips on the boards were bad and while a reset will "fix" the state machine. As soon as you but the old chip back in it scrambles. This is from a post over in NK:

Yikes! Interesting, Chuck!
Let me check the model numbers after work. I know one of them is the SD-70 BNSF.

The only two PS1 boards I have left are in a couple of standard gauge locos. One went south on me last year, but an MTH service center managed to bring it back to life for me (after my numerous feeble attempts). The other one hasn't been down off the shelf for three or four years...I hazard to think what firing that up will bring. I have a BCR around here I intended to install...I should probably add that to the lengthening project list.
