ah, the smell of ozone in the evening
Finished up all the new track, undermount switch machines, wiring....still one more signal I may put in...all the control panel toggles function for this full 1/4 of the basement....ran the gas-electric out and back....then dropped the liftouts in and ran the bronze FT's on 2343 chassis with full train of tanks all around inner main...first time on that main...and the smell of ozone filing the basement......

Re: ah, the smell of ozone in the evening
it's been interesting.
Other things get in the way, but I determined this section would get done.
But, I don't bend as easily as I did when I first did this 25-30 years ago.
Mounting under board switch machines....wiring them...wiring signal contacts....cutting in local ACME controllers....wiring grounds, and blocks, and modifying control panels....and test runs.....
Old milk crates to sit and stand on....five gallon buckets of paint.....reading glasses to replace my bifocals when under the layout looking UP....
I have one pair of undermounts to install, then wire in the yard panel, and that should get me to Thanksgiving.

Re: ah, the smell of ozone in the evening
Thanks. I like NP, also. Up until what, 33 years ago, I was PRR and undetermined...as in UnDecRR.
Then a house fire.
95% of the stuff was saved, but didn't look good. Smoke damage...bad. In fact, I think the yellow bulldozer in one photo was cleaned (finally) late last week.
I figured, insurance paid for the stuff, no longer collectible....so did NP.
Local.
The gas-electric is a full-length Walthers, no power truck, but did have the hand reverse..five bucks. Shortened it, Lionel power truck (cheapie FA, I think), lettered NP....the caboose shown is a Walthers NYC wood and cast soft metal...shortened...have several...looks right, cheaper than some options. Never paid more than $3-$4 for them at swap meets. Couldn't GIVE them away...Lionel cupola....

house fire - man that's rough. What made you pick NP over redoing PRR or another Eastern road?

Re: ah, the smell of ozone in the evening
No longer on the east coast. Out of the Navy, back to west coast....saw NP stuff, figured sure....especially when you see that Clambake ignored the competitor to GN and MILW.
Plus, I got tired of figuring out what shade of black Brunswick Green is.
When I moved here 42 years ago, the plan was to build my RR in the shop out back...sell off the steamers, buy GG1's and anything with a pantograph....install catenary...found out the shed was so bad when it rained it was wetter INSIDE than OUTSIDE....so finished the basement, and here I am.
Then we rebuilt the shop/shed, which now is the terminal for the outdoor railroad.

WUT? Are you kidding me? Arguing over paint chips is part of the FUN of being an SPF.
Seriously, looking pretty good.

Garden..have a couple of live steamers.....1500' of track, close to 100 switches...wayfreights ops with radio/battery.
I was an early innovator/dealer/installer/promoter of Radio/Battery. Just got tired of idiot suppliers.
Even had the railroad featured in GR magazine....had two local GR conventions....no more. Tired of all that. But we still run the outdoor line, once a month.
