Not obvious at all to me even if I shine a light on it.

At this point, I'd guess it's the elevation trunnion on a large piece of artillery.

Of course, I've heard of Magilla Gorilla, but not "the whole Megillah". Nice alternate to "the whole nine yards", which refers to the length of material on a bolt of fabric.

Wow, you're ninety percent there, but I want to know what piece it is...

I've heard it referred to the whole load on a cement truck or the length of a belt of rounds for a .30 machine gun.

Part of what adjusts a large gun (Rotary Cannon?) on a ship to quickly take down fast moving overhead enemy aircraft, or like on a very large cannon able to adjust and send a large shell far inland at a target?

Actually, that's pretty damn close Murph...it's a one-pounder 37mm Hotchkiss Revolving Cannon, vintage late-1800's:

Here's a few other pictures:

Typically it would be mounted on a carriage, but there was also a naval version.

This thing has been guarding the American Legion lodge here in Westminster for as long as I can remember. I can recall climbing on it when I was a kid. Various bits are missing, i.e. the crank, the firing pin, the breech has a big crack in it (probably from winter ice)...still impressive. Must have been a "blast" holding that grip and cranking away...deafening.

Flip me a PM with your mailing address...I'll send you your prize

So, this is a hand-cranked Gatling cannon?
