SCOTUS appointment was a very big deal

Postby up148 » Wed Jun 27, 2018 9:20 am

I stated this before, if Trump does nothing else positive during his term, his appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the SCOTUS was enough for me. Yesterday proved that.

A faint ray of hope for Calif. The unions contribute huge amounts to elect Democrats, now they won't have so much to give. Thank you Trump.

The vote on the executive order limiting immigration (travel ban) from terror sponsoring countries was huge, but nonetheless disappointing to me. The vote should have been 9-0, not 5-4. Those judges are sworn to uphold the constitution, yet 4 of them dissented over the "touchy/feely" past rhetoric that the President used while campaigning, and ignored the constitutionality of the President's power to protect the US. It was not a vote about religion in any way, yet the Democrat judges stilled ruled by their playbook, which was to accentuate the 'Crat talking points about not allowing Muslims (of any ilk) into the country, and that's BS! Many thanks to Kennedy, the swing vote who has his head on straight.

Just wondering, why are agency shop fees (having to pay union dues even when not a member) wrong for public employees, but it's OK for a non-public workplace to be unionized, and require all employees to join the union?

That may apply in some states but it does not work that way in right to work states. In Kansas with Boeing (union shop) right to work state you did not have to belong to the union to work there and did not have to pay union dues. During a strike most of the non union workers would come to work after a couple of days after the company would get an injunction to stop the union from blocking the entrances. Many of the union members would drop their membership to come to work.

In Washington state which is a non right to work state everyone but supervision was out for the length of the strike. In Washington the people got a pretty good paycheck from the union every week. In Kansas the union only gave the workers a $100 a week. As I recall in Washington state they could also collect unemployment.

I went through 4 strikes will working at Boeing. I was in supervision so I had to come to work. You haven't lived until you have to cross a picket line.

The day before the strike you really had to keep an eye on the union members. They would sabotage anything they could.

My wife drives a school bus in Pa. Her shop is union. She is not. She wants no part of it. After the school teachers tried to hold the bus drivers and their union hostage. They would come in and ask if they would not drive kids to school during a strike. Yet never wanted to help out with the bus driver's union issues. On the eve of a strike. A couple teachers got popped for letting the air out of bus tires. This was done so that it was not called a walkout. with school closed for the day it was called a lockout. Then a few got nailed for kidnapping. The stood in front of a bus filled with kids. All the while shouting your not going anywhere. By not allowing the bus to move local law enforcement charged them with kidnapping. Later on those charges were dropped by a pansy judge. I would have hung the teachers high. How can you walk a picket line with a sign saying " we are here to help your children" Then block bus loads from going to school?

Unions are a good thing.
How the folks making the Money have convinced those that make it for them that their labor is worth nothing Has always bothered me
How much more advertising do they have to do to get you to readily vote against your own self interest? Not much I think,.. as readily as most who have benefited from unions are quick to speak against them.
If Nuclear energy is soooo safe then why do they advertise? Cause advertising works . Just like the last 40 or so years of the advertising against unions.
WAKE THE FORK UP!!!!

The problem is people count pennies while they loose nickles.
In other words, they want to save the dues money.
While I believe in Unions, I also think many of them have become bloated and waste a lot of member dollars. They are going to have to fix that.

That may apply in some states but it does not work that way in right to work states.

I imagine that right to work states do not collect agency shop fees for public employee unions.

I may be a little confused about this. I believe my wife is a public employee. She works for the school district. To be in the union she had to pay dues. With only working 10 hours a week she opted out of the union. They wanted 1 hour a week's pay from her. She does receive the same pay as union workers. She also works and lives in pa. A right to work state. They still try to get her to join every month and a lot of the other drivers will not talk to her.
Do we need unions ?yes. To keep employees safe.Unions need to take notice that a lot of people are out of work. Those people would work for a lot less then what they push an employer for. It's human nature to want the most employee or employer. They need to meet in the middle and neither side ever wants to. School bus drivers don't need a union. Federal laws dictate how much work a school bus driver can do.

I think you are confirming that your wife does not pay agency shop fees.

Do School Bus Drivers need a union? ...... I don't know. Are all of your school district bus drivers working 10 hrs a week, or are some full time? I assume the union negotiated salaries, and maybe some other benefits, like health care and time off.

A dues level of 10 percent seems very high to me, I don't think I would voluntarily pay that much either.

In any case, it does not seem reasonable to me that folks that don't contribute anything to the cost of negotiating a contract should benefit from it.
That and a couple dollars will get you a cup of coffee.

That is wonderful. Now maybe our Constitutional rights will be protected from the liberal mob even longer.
