It's ALL opinion of course! That said, I agree with Joe. The engine is a one off (in real life, that is), PRR's Mr. BIG:
http://digital.denverlibrary.org/cdm/re ... 2/id/64065
Not all that good condition for 2K and the smoke stack looks under size, as the one on the actual loco was absolutely HUGE. There are some pics out there taken from above that really show this, but they have eluded my searches for the moment. When I say huge, I am referring to the diameter.

Re: Is it just me.............
I don't know what it is, but gimme two grand and it's yours...oh, by the way, my NEW IMPROVED disclaimer:
" It is in Good cosmetic condition, since it is showing signs of aging and tarnishing, and UNKNOWN working condition. Some of the couplers MIGHT be missing or broken off. Some of the detail pieces or railings MIGHT be broken off or missing. NOTE: One of the "side rod" "mounting brackets" needs to be re-attached as shown in the photos. NOTE: One of the "side rod" "mounting pins" is missing as shown in the photos. See photos of actual item. What You See Is What You Get. Current working condition is UNKNOWN. This item MIGHT work, but is being sold as-is, without warranty or refunds and with NO GUARANTEE. This item IS BEING SOLD AS IS. "
My lawyer tells me this new disclaimer he came up with MIGHT work, but work or not, I MIGHT pay him......and I MIGHT really have this unit to sell to the "winner"

Re: Is it just me.............
Let me make a dumb statement so I can get spanked by those in the know.
The model definitely has a Prr streamlined tender with a doghouse. The firebox is a wooten style? Air compressors are side running board mounted. The drive linkage is different than the Denver photo as well as cab windows, the steam dome and sand dome. The front end is reminiscent of Virginian or Duluth Missabe, with all the piping.
The photo shows definite Prr heritage it has an early oil headlamp, slatted pilot, front firebox mounted air compressors, definitely a Belpaire firebox and that's an early tender. And the stack is Huge
My guess is tender and loco are not supposed to be together. What kind of valve gear is that on the model. Can you imagine trying to fire that Prr firebox with a shovel.
Spank away oh purveyors of knowledge.

Re: Is it just me.............
No way of knowing for sure, but I think the model is someones attempt scratch/bash the engine in the photo. I've seen that engine in HO, but never O, therefor my speculation of someone trying to "roll" their own.

So what am I missing?
Looks like a Max Y6b to me...

Sarge,
Yeah, looks like the standard Max Gray model.
Unless someone really wants this particular model I'd say it's priced about double of what it's worth today. Maybe 10 years ago but not now.

I don't know, but all this PRR assignment/derivative seems illusory at best.
Anyway, I'll give 5 cents for it.
Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.

It very well may be a Max Y6b, but what is the cylindrical dingus running from the second dome to the front of the cab? I don't think there was anything like it on a Y6b. The ONLY steamer I can recall seeing with that kind of gear (whatever it is) is the one of a kind PRR HC1 2-8-8-2 built at Juniata in 1919.
Not the best image here, because it's vertical, but you can see the gear/part I am referencing:

Was someone trying to bash that loco from a Max Gray???

Re: Is it just me.............
The Max Gray model has the steam pipe in question. See page 35 & 36 of volume II in the Spotters Guide. Is it accurate for the Y6b? Damned if I know but I can't imagine KTM going to all the trouble of having it unless it was supposed to be there.

Re: Is it just me.............
My expertise on the N&W Y6B on a scale of 1 to 10 is somewhere roundabout negative 37. My actual interest in the Y6B is somewhat similar. All that said, I don't recall seeing that pipe on any pics or models (other than the one in question) of Y6B's. My Bad!
PS: I don't have the spotters guide as I have no plans to purchase any of the late Mr. Gray's locos!

Guess we're looking at different photos. I see the pipe in some of the photos but not all. I would post them but all are shown to have copyright protection.
Maybe this one isn't, http://www.nwhs.org/archivesdb/detail.php?ID=134980

Re: Is it just me.............
Jay,
Not necessary to post more photos....I believe you. I do see it on the first photo. I guess it just stands out more on the PRR engine.......probably because of the Belpaire fire box and the fact that there is NOT much stuff there to hide it. The old eyes and the memory are not so much anymore.
50 years ago, I had a summer job on one of PennDOT's road crews, and there was an old guy on the crew that said: "If you're going to be dumb, you might as well be right d*mn dumb!" I guess that's what I'm working on!
