My approach to model railroading involves presenting the complete picture...that being appropriate trains on scale track running through realistic scenery and all that encompasses. Trees, vehicles, structures, waterways...and yes BOATS...
This is a 1/48th scale Skipjack Oyster Dredge which at one time numbered a couple thousand in Chesapeake Bay. Since I model the Pennsy's Delmarva Branch, and it's proximity to that body of water I felt I needed to include this iconic scenic element.
The model is what we refer to as a kitbash. It was a kit I bought off a white elephant table a couple years ago. I knew I could get it looking right using our friend "Google" for references. I found plenty of material on these Classic "Skipjacks"
Here she is docked at the sail maker. That number 27 is it's Dredging License number. They all had to have one. No two Skipjacks were alike which is nice for the guy whose sorta scrounging a half crap model back into shape. I built it as a waterline model so it's sits appropriately in/on the water surface. I named it "Lucky Catch" after my dog...
