Park you car at the far end, catch the street car, go through town, do your shopping, return to parking at the far end of town and go home to suburbs.......what a novel concept,

That's essentially what The Grove streetcar does. I think they need more cars, and longer shopping routes.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

P.E. decided to go with all-steel cars in 1915. These 1200-class cars ran to San Bernardino:

Is the contraption attached to the front a "people-catcher" ?

I'm a little surprised to see that fender, as the cars on the San Bernardino line commonly ran eighty mph. The fenders were primarily for street running.

Thanks, I wasn't sure what it was actually for, having no memory of them on trolleys in the Pittsburgh in the 40's & 50's. This model of mine had what seemed like a facsimile of one, so I liked it and keep it on the layout. You had suggested, quite some time ago, that I string trolley wires overhead, but my patience for such re-detailing is long gone, and I have no intention of mounting the layout, these days.

I'm glad you like it. But, I'm focused on good-looking trolleys.

Back in the early 1950s I rode the North Shore just for fun.
Wish I could remember more about the trip. Went north
from the Loop for @ an hour and then returned. I don't
remember the stations or anything but at that time I
didn't care. It was just for fun.

I'm surprised that these North Shore interurbans ran on the L tracks.

My connection with the North Shore comes from a Suydam HO brass coach model my mom bought for me. I've always thought it was strange that I ended up with a Chicago based car. I don't remember asking for it.

This was @70 years ago and I could be wrong. I thought I went up on an elevated section to get on the train. Could be wrong.

Well, the caption to my picture said the train was at an L stop, so I believe you, Roger. I just didn't previously know that interurbans ran on L tracks.
