Desperately needs a valve-job and a refurbishment of the steering rack...I think I lost a few fillings on the test drive, lol...

So are you saying it looks better than it drives?

Right now, absolutely...It's needed a rebuild of the steering rack since the day he got it (close to thirty years ago). We replaced the bushings a couple of times but that was a band-aid. That and the engine could stand a complete overhaul.

But it's running, and on a day like today (sunny, 78 degrees, nice breeze) an open car is still pretty nice.

I went to the Put-In-Bay Historic Races Monday and Tuesday.

The flag was flown:



The police car leading the parade around the old course through town was driven briskly, giving participants an idea of what it was like "back in the day":

This is the Arnold Special. It was built by a 24 year old enthusiast in western Canada in the mid 50s. The body is formed and welded aluminum, the chassis is steel tube and the car is a work of art:





This is a Formcar, the original Formula Vee race car:



When I talked to the driver it soon became apparent that we had raced at Nelson's Ledges in the same time period. While we could not remember ever racing with one another we both knew several other Formula Vee drivers we had raced with. We spent about 30 minutes swapping stories and laughing.

A well spent 2 day vacation.
