C'mon, Healey! If ya thought the damned car was that undependable, you'd just leave it in the shed!

I know, need to man up...Sarge is after me big time! I've got a miss I'm having trouble sorting...have checked everything I can think of except the guts of the distributor. I wouldn't think I'd get an intermittent miss on points-gap, but maybe...

Distributor, points, gap, condenser, timing, coil. Ah I remember that stuff with some joy. A person could do a lot of stuff to their own vehicle
and feel that all would be well for a drive anywhere. I put 150,000 miles on several cars when 50,000 was considered to be high mileage. I
admit I always carried a small tool kit in those cars along with a few small parts; points, condenser, spark plug. Seldom had any problems.
My present car, a 2009 Ford Flex, has 150,000 on it and I have had no problems with it. The biggest problem is that I can't work on it
anymore because of electronics and I just couldn't do it physically. Must admit that I have never washed it either. Oh, it gets washed but not by me. :D
Now that's a lot more than I meant to say. Sorry. Nah, not really.

Bad ground or cracked cap.
here is a glass plate negative I found in a desk from France. I pulled 3 out from under a drawer.

A lot of the antique shops around here are loaded with furniture from France and the UK, yet they tell me you can't sell a stick of domestic antique or high-end reproductions...what's up with that? A lot of nice stuff is going into the land-fill if these dumb kids don't figure it out soon.

Cap, rotor, points, wires, all check out. LV ground looks good...no cracks in the insulation. Plugs appear to be okay but they're old so maybe I'll go ahead and replace them. Sounds like it's time to run it over to the shop and let them take a look at it.

All the BIG BUCK furniture I've ever seen on the "Road Show" (or at least most) was from the US of A.

Who has room for furniture?

The dumb kids don't know and don't care about furniture like we do. They're fine with used Ikea that they grabbed curbside before the trash guys picked it up. They can't afford an oak table and chairs set, or a nice Federal period chair,

That's easy, sell your house, buy a Maybach. You will have enough money left over to buy a smaller house (and keep your SUV.)

I suppose if "tiny houses" are the future housing for the world then the world should have room for more people and sharing of
"convenience" facilities will bring all of humankind(?) closer together.

Healey, what are we talkin' about here? Hard miss, soft miss, missing all the time, misses only on a hard pull or under heavy load, misses at speed, continuous miss or intermittent?
Some suggestions before ya drop some money. Wait 'til dark, and fire that baby up, open the "bonnet", (always wanted to use that expression) , and with a spray bottle of water at hand, first watch for a taletell spark to ground along the path of the ignition wires. If you don't see any, spritz some water on the cap and wires. (Make sure the engine is warm enough to get rid of the mist quickly). If the engine cuts out or stumbles, chances are pretty good you may have found the problem. This is especially true of ignition cables that have carbon fiber conduction. If the engine is missing continuously, you can use a 12 volt test light to find the missing cylinder. (I call this a "scope on a rope"). Connect the clip end of the test light to battery (or another good) ground, and slide the probe of the test light down past each wire into the top of the distributor cap. You'll be sending spark from each cylinder directly to ground, and the good ones will pull the engine down noticeably, but the one that's missing won't make much difference at all. If you locate the misfire this way, then you can go straight to that spark plug. Then you can switch the plugs with another cylinder, and if the miss follows the plug, you know where you're goin'. Hard pulls and heavy loads, (low engine vacuum) are most often related to plugs and wires. High speed misses, ya look at points, cap and rotor. Inspect the cap carefully. Make sure there's no carbon tracking goin' on in there. A high speed miss can also be due to a weak spring on the breaker points. If you find nothing there, it may be time for a compression test. Possible burnt valve due to unleaded fuel in an engine that wasn't designed for it, maybe even a broken valve spring. If ya find it on your own, you not only save shop money, but ya got the satisfaction of figurin' it out on your own.

You get 10 out of 10 for that response Roger:

Actually, my wife and I almost moved to a smaller house to buy a car, except we already were living in a 1000 sq ft shack in the desert.
After being married for 10 years, we were in a position to purchase a new house or a new car.
Mary wanted a 1985 Corvette. I asked her if she thought it would be strange to have a car that cost more than our shack parked in the drive. She didn't think it strange at all. At least we did not have to move to a smaller house.

I have always wondered if negatives could be made positive by clicking "Negative" in an image application?

Murph, if you wax nostalgic for the days of performance cars, your frame would fit just fine in a 6.4L HEMI Dodge Charger RT, with enough horsepower and acceleration to set your eyeballs back in your head, for less than half that money. 500 HP ain't enough? Then consider the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Supercharged 6.4L HEMI with 707 HP, for still less than half that money. On that one, your eyeballs come out through the back of your head!

Hi Mitch, It was never the eyeballs-back-in-your-head rush that made me love those cars. It was their swank. :D And force. And their presence. However, I must admit, I did enjoy pushing the peddle right down to the floor when driving the '58 Cadillac convertible, alone or with classmates. The roar and thrust were addicting. But the chance to glide by - or even just touch or look upon - in a '62 Lincoln Continental or any Caddy were permanent dreams, to this day.

Wayne,

I distinctly recall several structures of that size in this area in years past. They all had quarter moons carved into the front door!
