OK, so here's something to talk about: retirement.

I'm finally retired. My wife retires on April 28. We're moving in the first week of May to our retirement home.

George

Congratulations George!

I've been retired 10 years now and do not regret doing so. I do work 2 days/wk at a local golf course, but I don't consider that work, plus I get to play golf for free :)

I thought I would enjoy yard work but after raking gum balls since 1991 I've come to detest it. I would cut the 2 down but they provide shade during the summer.

Between trains, golf, family, and maintaining the house I stay as busy as I want to be. Done enough traveling, so that thirst is quenched.

Other times I just like to sit and stare off into space.

I don't want a front lawn that looks like it was imported from an inner city vacant lot or a desert. Backyard is effectively a so what zone - enough oak trees and others to make a lawn difficult to exist between the acid pH and the shade.

Same here except it's maple's instead of Oaks in the back yard. Fertilizer is "water smart" (aka tiny time capsules) and makes the grass greener but doesn't make it grow fast. It seems to actually seems to be intent on filling in instead of growing up.

Township has some loose rules on yard care and they only get involved when the "grass" exceeds 18". Guy across the street moved out and rented the place out. He got into a pissing match with the renter (who was a nice guy and a police office for a neighboring township). Cop moved out abruptly at the end of the school year. He left and the place was vacant for several months over the summer. Township started putting notices on the front door of impending doom (we will cut the lawn and send you a bill). Two problems with this method. No one home to read the summons. Township lawn equipment is meant to cut the grass on the golf course. It eventually got sorted out.

Actually there is.......you can repay social security.....I don't recall all the bloody details, but if I paid back all the benefits I have received since I started at age 64, I could start again at a higher rate. You can check that one at your local SS office.

If you are receiving Social Security Retirement benefits and you change your mind about when they should start, you may be able to withdraw your Social Security claim and re-apply at a future date. You must repay all the benefits you and your family received based on your retirement application.

However, if you change your mind 12 months or more after you became entitled to retirement benefits, you cannot withdraw your application.

Robert,
Your neighbor would really dislike my lawn cutting. I have no set day to cut, any day will do if it is not raining. I also try to do it a little different each time. Start different places, go different directions. Circles, semi straight lines, sort of Xs from corner to corner. Anything to be different and not get
so bored that I fall asleep. It is a riding mower with a mulcher. :D

Perhaps if you applied a nitrous oxide system with a randomly triggered actuation system it would help keep you awake out there Roger.

But then I wouldn't have an excuse for doing it different every time.

Actually, I think that random system would pretty much guarantee your doing it differently every time.....

I kinda like Roy's idea...cut crop-circles in the lawn and maybe generate some street-traffic, maybe even the guys from Area-51.

Wayne, It is pretty much a moot point for me, because I would have to win the lottery to afford to pay back the SS, and if I won enough in the lottery to pay back SS, I wouldn't need higher SS payments. Sort of sounds like "Catch 22" doesn't it!        What a twisted web we weave.
