Rufus--
Can't make out the Reporting Mark initials on your picture, but the general outline
of the car indicates that it probably is PE 00150, now at OERM in Perris. The letters
look as if the might spell "OET" and are in the proper location to have been painted
over the "PE" or "MTA", and the numbers look like they are in the proper (unchanged)
location. But it looks like there is only one trolley pole, rather than the three that the
00150 carried in service...but maybe it was donated with only one? It is the two poles
with the greasing mechanism that are missing, so could also be that the museum
removed them for safekeeping. There certainly doesn't seem to be any wire to
maintain over the car as it sits....and it looks like the other car nosing into the picture
from the right is another ex-PERy tower car (I'd guess the 00157) that also went
to the Orange Empire.

If it really is this ex-PERy 00150, it's a really wonderful old car, built in 1899 as Los Angeles
Pacific #3, a tower car that was converted in 1936 to become PERy's trolley wire greaser, and
one of the oldest traction cars still operating in the US. Unlike a large number of trolley systems,
PERy did not use graphite-insert trolley shoes, but rather greased the wire on the passenger
lines on a regular weekly schedule. Operation over freight-only lines required trolley poles
equipped with wheels, which meant a change-out prior to the start of most fan trips.
Quickly and easily done.
Take care,
Wolfgang

I think you've got it on the lettering - looks to be OET to me as well.

A very cool car that I had filed away for a future project.

Rufus---
Dug out one of my sources for photos, and it even had a shot from nearly the same
angle---everything lines up perfectly in size and placement. So I think we can call
it as being the same car. I'd say the shot was at OETM sometime between 1958
and 1960. Both tower cars (and one from LARY/LATL/LAMTA n/g purchased later)
were some of the first cars that were running , as they were used to erect the overhead.

I had the Suydam version of it when I was in HO back in the sixties---too bad you
couldn't just put them somewhere, water & fertilize them, and have them grow to
"proper" 1/4" scale size! I'll talk to you at the next Strasburg show about the car.
Take care,
Wolfgang

I've seen that Suydam car more than once and had similar thoughts...........

The whole vignette is very nice, esp. incl. the overgrown tracks, the unkempt load, the rubble, and even the field across the way.

Indeed. Someone captured more than just a view of the R2...............which of course is a distant ancestor of R2-D2,

Rufas,
Did I read recently that your retirement had been postponed?
I wonder if some of your posts are showing that you are becoming a little desperate?
You must need a change of venue or something.
By the way, what has your avatar become now?

True. Thanks to a hiring freeze I'm staying on and costing your more of your hard earned tax dollars,

Not really - I am well compensated.

You must need a change of venue or something.

I could leave Freedonia for a while and visit Ma-Phoor? Barsoom? Tanelorn, maybe would be best.

Well, OK.
As long as you are doing something that might be useful while you are still non-retired I don't mind if you get paid from the paltry amount of taxes I pay.
Maybe you might be able to teach them younger guys something before you are retired. Of course if they are anything like teachers they don't think that there is anything to learn from the "old" dudes.

I stay exceptionally busy drinking mass quantities of coffee followed by frequent inspections of the porcelain recycling center. It's very nice although a tad chilly.

Sadly, you are actually surprisingly correct, or is it unsurprisingly.... They already know everything based on their 30 min of experience and knowledge vs. mine 30+ years. This is in part why research in this country is dying.

After I retired, every band director (8) that followed in my old school had little or no experience except one who had 15 years previous teaching.
I still live in the same town and principals, parents and even a superintendent suggested that they contact me. The only one that did was,
can you guess, the one with experience.
I sometimes think it is not always that they think they are so great ( well some do ) but they don't want us to see how little they know.
I did NOT think I was the greatest B.D. around but I knew and could do some things pretty good especially for certain situations.

My guess there will be some in your department that wish Martin was still around after you are gone, NO, retired.
