Now I need a drink............

A 2013 vintage - opened 2 years early, but still something beyond special - that bourbon barrel aging does wonderful things to a stout. Also, 14.9% alcohol in a smooth brew makes a lot of distractions just shrink down to manageable.

So ah, does alcohol go bad? I really don't know as in the past never stayed in the bottle long enough for me to tell

I thought I'd fix myself a little toddy while I was cooking dinner (Gosling's Black Seal Rum from Bermuda) and it tasted like it had just washed up on shore after a long 400+ mile voyage from Bermuda to Virginia.

I honestly think I got it last time I was in Bermuda, which was last century. The stamp on the bottom of the bottle says 42 23 056 15 17:23, don't know if that's Bermuda time or longitude/latitude :? But...it also has a website (www.blackseal.com) on it so maybe I bought it not too long ago at the ABC store in town.

I know it has to be at least 10 years old, I think me and the wife had stopped drinking by then.

I don't know if it's gone bad or it's my lack of taste/smell (lost my sense of smell around 2004) that is giving me these thoughts

So what say you, do I keep it or pour it out?!?!?!

If it's stored in glass keep it. Maybe your wife did not stop drinking 10 years ago. She could have topped it off with shoe polish

Robert, tastes more like what comes off the bottom of a shoe.

I had to dump it, just tasted awful, wasn't much left anyway. Still have 1/2 bottle of Absolut which I understand doesn't go bad for a long time. At my rate of consumption, it should outlast me.

The Cliff Note story of Budweiser. "Bud Wiser got lost in the desert. He was so thirsty he drank his mule's urine. Then he became so delusional he let some barley ferment in it for a few days, drank some more, and named his new brew Budweiser. Then he met a marketing shill named Ann Hiser who realized the masses of morons would actually pay for it if it was served up cold. Like the true crapetbagger Bud was. soon everyone believed it was real beer and made Budweiser the worlds most successfully diluted brand of mule pi** - aka "beer". One of their competitors named Hiney, Ken, was never able to replicate the taste and had to take second place as real beer we know as Heineken. The End.

Interestingly enough, and pertinent, I just last night saw an advertisement for a new movie about the abuse and persecution the German who invented that beer in this country had to endure. It's controversial already .

Here I thought that Budweiser was actually a Czech style beer that Busch copied......

I'm pretty sure the ad said he was German, as were the majority of immigrants to this country. They are still the largest portion of the ethnicity in the USA.

Budweiser Budvar is one of the highest selling beers in the Czech Republic and exports into more than 60 countries across all continents. It is the best selling imported beer in Germany and in Austria and Great Britain, the best selling Czech beer

The history of brewing in České Budějovice, dates back to the 13th century Kingdom of Bohemia, when the city received the brewing rights. The original Budweiser Bier or Budweiser Bürgerbräu (Czech:Budějovický měšťanský pivovar), was founded here in 1785. The company began exporting to the United States in 1871. In the U.S., Anheuser-Busch started using the Budweiser brand in 1876 and registered it two years later.

Annhauser Busch is no longer an American company. It hasn't been for over 8 years when AB sold out to Inbev. Even Inbev just finished merging with SABMiller to form the world's largest beer company. They own over 100 brands of beer. Miller's, Budweiser, Corona, Beck’s, Michelob, Foster's, and Stella Artois are the most popular brands. For some odd reason ever since Annhauser Busch sold out to a foreign conglomerate sales of Budweiser keep dropping in America. The newest global corporation owner has a Brazilian family owning majority stake in the company. Now we have a Superbowl commercial pretending AB is still American. Support American businesses and buy from your local brewing company like Rufus does

I' googled, to learn further:
"Whatever happened to German America?"
and
"Super Bowl LI: Budweiser's Stunning pro-immigrant commercial. David Morgan. Jan 31, CBS News. 'Born the Hard Way' about Adolphus Busch, brewmaster from Germany who made a perilous journey to America in mid-1800's"

That's what I saw.
Murph
Also, "Beer in the United States" was enlightening so I thought you might enjoy the overview.

Thanks for refreshing my memory....

I knew it had all been sold a few years back - not the details thereafter.

We keep selling our companies out of the country and then we complain that the jobs leave the country - we're our own worse enemies. Smithfield here in VA is a Chinese Co.

Support American businesses and buy from your local brewing company like Rufus does

And for goodness sake, buy good drinking beer and not corporate mass produced swill that you see on TV advertising.....

Not really. It's been happening for decades and we let it happen. And then we and Wall St. celebrate it happening.

But I never saw anyone running to buy A-B or Smithfield - lots of hand-wringing and lots of oh dear and oh my, but they are both gone and not coming back. We give stuff away.........and then complain.

Let me know when Trump actually keeps a company from being sold to a foreign company.....w/o losing the jobs.......w/o the product getting priced beyond sellable.....
