I guess it's all about having a realistic balance on a layout, but your photos remind me there are human habitats that can be temporarily bare of human figures. For the moment. But that's what we model, isn't it, a moment in time.

Balance - yes. Empty just seems all too sterile, like the pod people are getting busy or that the Andromedra Strain just dropped in for a visit.

The guy I almost overlooked is the doorman; until I expanded it a bit, he sort ofd faded into the doorway.

I am still marveling over things found in the theater image.

Flag poles and flags.
Wires (that even two rail modelers fail to model.)
Rain gutter "Y" that appears to dump right on the sidewalk.
Flimsy fire escape with its guy wires and counter weighted ladder.
Lights over the doorways.
Light hanging by a thread (apparently) over the entrance.
Lyman H. Howe's "Travel Festival" movies advertised on the bill boards (In theaters, 1912.)

Almost always too delicate and ready to get hung up on something, like a shirt sleeve as you reach over to handle a derailed car, or some such...

Rain gutter "Y" that appears to dump right on the sidewalk.

It doesn't - if you go back to the full photo you will see 3 exits in the curb side where the gutters run through the sidewalk and dump into the street.

Delicate stuff and neat details - yes, that light is handing by a "thread", not unlike many other cards I've posted that show street lighting handing by what we today consider to be at best inadequate and insubstantial.
