Odd that the "baggage car" behind the passenger car is not a trailer.

That looks like a tie cart to me.

End of the line, changing ends? Short turn, same thing? Or maybe just forgot to lower the other pole? Philadelphia Suburban tied a piece of ribbon around the rope that was at eye level to the seated motorman when the pole was properly hooked down. Simple, cheap, and effective.

I don't see any passengers, just a motorman, maybe a staged picture.

Now here's a trio of lads possessing a hint of jocularity in a photo.

Is the one in the middle besotted? :( :P :| He must have been an amusing guy, despite the barely-amused expression on his supporters' faces.

For all we know, they could be relatives or even brothers......having a good day recording it on film....

Don't know about that - the one to the left seems amused by it all. The one to the right apparently has had too many boiled eggs again.

I look at these pictures and the takeaway is a reminder that fat guys like me should not wear double-breasted suits...

Fortunately, I learned that some time ago. I also learned that if I wore an open vest without a jacket and walked through a restaurant, people handed me plates, asked to place an order, or tried to get drinks.

And talk about questionable apparel for some of us, you should (actually, you should not) see me in one of those fedora-type hats that are popular among younger dudes. I ordered one; tried it on, and asked wife if she thought I looked like a damfool. We sent the hat back right away.

I'm talkin' distant past - like, a decades ago, with that "3" key. The "4" in front of the "2" is a contemporary goal. YIKES!

Regarding achieving a Taft-like physique: Alas, apparently I have been, as numerous bakeries and ice cream parlors in several states can verify (you name the town and I can tell you if it has a bakery worth visiting); however, my gall bladder died, a year ago last June, so with its having been removed from the premises, I am on the road to leaner days, I believe. (PLUS, I walked 2mi every day this week! ) And my menu (via Mayo Clinic) now permanently excludes: any dairy, esp. ice cream; pizza; fries; chips; chocolate; beef; creamy sauces; spicy foods and dressings; any pork of any kind, esp. hotdogs; salami; pork roast; sausage; any alcoholic beverages, esp. beer. (Did I leave anything out that should be left out?) :D

Murph, if I read that correctly you can still eat cupcakes!

Trolley wreck near Pen-Mar, 1920:

Image

The note on the back of the photo says H&F, but it might instead be the CG&W which had a connection with the H&F travelling to Pen-Mar. As far as I know the H&F didn't reach Pen-Mar.
