Monday Mountain thread
Re: Monday Mountain thread
Looks sort of bare compared to some of the PRR mountains.
Re: Monday Mountain thread
Bob,
I like the lines and the paint job of this loco. What is the origin of this model?

M1s are in fact permitted. Don't be shy.
Joe - it is prewar Lobaugh. Not bad for 1937, huh? Nobody knows what shade of green the SP used, but there are a few color photos of green switchers in the 1950s.

General Models. Lead and trail still off in this photo. Field wound motor (still), never run when I obtained it.

Bob,
That is green? Looks more bluish to me. I can blame my eyes.
No matter, I like it whatever color it is.

Re: Monday Mountain thread
Bob Church has a formula for Floquil (RIP). I just throw in a touch of big sky blue into CNW green, and shoot. I believe most SP locomotives with the passenger scheme were sort of blue-green.
In the beginning, boilers were jacketed with "Russia Iron". That could be almost any shade of blue or green, and ranged from gray to brown. As I understand it, it was an iron finish applied with heat and hammering. Restoreres almost always use modern metallic paint to simulate the effect. As a kid, I saw an SP 4-10-2 with a grey boiler. Since it was 1950, I am guessing it was grey paint.
One of my All Nation Mountains is Southern Apple green. Maybe Monday, although everybody has seen all my photos before. Just trying to keep our neat forum coasting along.

Re: Monday Mountain thread
A pleasing shade of blue green for sure. Noting the large GM on Dave's model, it is apparent that General Models was not bashful about promoting their products. Do you have any later pictures with the plot and trailing trucks attached? Looks like it weighs a ton!

Re: Monday Mountain thread
Oh, I get it now....We're doing two doorstop threads at once now. Well, I guess anybody is free to post a non-doorstop Mountain. As it is, my two are indeed doorstops. I will wait until Bob exhausts his and then post mine.
There was a time in which I would have been all over models such as the CLW Northern, or the Pearce Tool Consolidation, or the General Models / All Nation Mountain, or any of the other GM / All Nations for which there is no stated or clear prototype. I decided some time in the recent past that eliminating these from my wish list would be one small way to limit the potential size (and weight) of the model collection around here.
Having said that, I do have a Pearce 2-8-0 that I like:

Maybe I'm just easy, but I find it hard not to like this little guy. This one came to me with no motor. I would like to get it running, but I think I will have to stumble onto an appropriate caboose to get me motivated. A freight locomotive without a caboose is not of much interest to me.
