It appears that Mr. Boyd may have got his facts wrong for image #3.
Looks like Clark's Lotus 49 to me not a Brabham.

Thanks for that Wayne. Up until a few months ago I'd had never seen one of these after-market hard-tops for the Spridget before...certainly an improvement appearance-wise over the bubble-top fiberglass units one would see occasionally. Sarge had given me some good notes on it. Sort of a Midget-GT, very sharp if installed properly. This view gives a good look at the boot adaptation.

I went to the drag races today for the 1st time in a long time, years. I used to go to this strip and then it closed down but it’s back. For awhile southern Calif. The birthplace of hot rodding had no drag strip, Pomona is for professionals only.
This is at the California Speedway a huge Nascar facility, they have a drag strip on the side.
68 miles one way and a hour and a half, thats from my driveway to parked.
This is my birthday present to me, it’s Monday
I couldn't see the numbers at the finish line that gives the MPH and ET. but a 2nd gen. Camaro went 8.04 at 181 I heard the announcer say and there were a bunch of other cars that fast.
This was a Fastest Street Car event.

Rolling up on 2016 Le Mans...looking forward to seeing what Ford can do with their new GT's.

Digging around in the attic looking for the side mirror for the Sprite, unearthed my old Dinky Bristol 450. Looks like she's taken a beating in her fifty-plus years:



Bristol campaigned the 450 at La Sarthe from 1953 to 1955, first as a coupe and then in the final year as a redesigned open car. In 1954 the 450's won their 2.0 litre class finishing 1-2-3, 7-8-9 overall. The powerplant was an in-line six-cylinder based on the prewar BMW I6. Pretty radical aero for a coupe racer in the 1950's.

Here Bristol #34 glides past the wrecked factory Aston Martin DB3S coupe of Peter Collins and Prince Birabongse Bhanubandh in 1954:



Bristol made a decent showing at Le Mans through 1955. They stayed out on the track after the horrific crash by the Mercedes, again finishing 1-2-3 in their class. After that they withdrew from racing and resharpened their focus on their line of conservative passenger cars.

I'm hoping MAVTV or somebody is carrying coverage of the race this year...always a fun way to squander the better part of a weekend. In the meantime I picked up a set of replacement decals for the Dinky...she deserves those.
