I have a theory that a significant reason/cause for a lot of us model train enthusiasts to be actively in this hobby is remembering (at least, subliminally) the fun, play, comfort, security, warmth, and adventure of our childhoods/youth. Model trains as well as the mountain-solid omnipresence of real trains throughout so many communities, as Roger referenced, together, often tied to key figures in our lives, helped anchor and enshrine those times in our hearts and minds. What else could explain such devotion to and self-indulgence in the purchase of trains and the construction of layouts (no matter the size) ?

And if I may be allowed a personal note, except for the devastating, life-altering loss of my father when I was ten, I do not have a single regret from my childhood; indeed, nowhere along the entire path of my life, right up to this day (well, except, maybe, for that bout with acne when I was an adolescent) do I see regret, anywhere. Perhaps, the trains in my basement in an imaginary place called Moon Township are a celebration of it all.

Murph, The first TWO buildings on my layout were stations.
One is in its original placement and the other was moved
from one side of the tracks to the other.

This little station was the last structure to be installed in it's final (I think..) location on the layout.





There is a milk station over on other end of the layout, but there is no dedicated passenger station......

It's not Cumberland Valley, but it is Cumberland. WM Class K-2 Pacific #208 pulls out of the Cumberland Station southbound dragging an RPO baggage and a single coach on August 23, 1952:

First or last, or first-among-equals, that is a charming and handsome li'l freight station, Rufus. Having seen and enjoyed several of your personally crafted buildings and rolling-stock, I can only imagine what a whole vista on a layout by your hands would be like.

Thanks! It's been mounted to a bit of Masonite designed to fit into its specific slot at the one end of town with the scenery about it. I had hoped to get that entire town and immediate surroundings done back in Dec when I was home for a few weeks. Having my arm in this splint still has re-directed my time and efforts back to different projects. Eventually, I thinkt hat I'll do a photo shoot of the town for the magazine and we'll see hat happens then....

and am hoping to see more of it in the near future.

I actually consider just about anything that I do to be reasonably achievable; it is my intention to hopefully entice and incie one to go try to do stuff. Maybe not what I do that's in the magazine directly, but get that project you had been thinking about for years out from behind the radiator, clean the dust and dirt off, and get into it.....

I have seen little bits and pieces of your layout mostly in OST and am hoping to see more of it in the near future.

Are we absolutely certain "Oh Lady, hey lady..." is in fact a female? Check out the man-hands, for example, let alone the mug. And with all that fabric, a person can hide anything under all that yardage! Of course, the deceased tarantula on her head is a lovely touch, though. If the overall mound was actually a "lady", I hope she was a good cook.
