Something about triggering signals is what I recall......and maybe also access to areas that were pole only wire...

I think that's right.
I recall reading about trolley poles used on diesel switchers for that purpose.
Maybe on Sacramento Northern.

A baby Crocodile! What a neat looking loco, that would be fun to model, especially if the panto and pole were given the wires to run on track and street, something cobbled perhaps a dockyard setting?

Better termed a "steeple cab" and a main line engine too for the P&N. Interesting RR that existed as 2 disconnected segments and tried to pretend to be an interurban line..........

Rufus,

What is the origin of your tag line?
Unlike someone above I can't imagine you in a dress.
Wayne will probably show me now.

Tench? Trench?

Really? Same as a cut through on a highway.... Easier to make a cut through and keep level or a reasonable incline vs. up and over, and back.
