I can't make any serious comments on the Skunk Works Nuclear Fusion project, but I did find Thomas McGuire's commentary somewhat amusing.

Thanks guys...the day passed rather uneventfully as compared to recent weeks:



Blew out the shoulder, elbow, pretty much the whole right side keeping up with the new pup. I am bored to tears.

I start rehab Tuesday...they tell me I get three weeks of Inga for passive rehab (gentle stretching, massage, hot wax treatments, etc.), followed by three weeks with Brunehilda for active rehab (arm-wrestling, the medicine ball, verbal abuse, etc.)...can't wait.

Hope you guys are geared up for the holidays!

Geez, Healey, I know where you're comin' from. There was the accident in '85 where I went off the fuel tank of the semi and I busted my right elbow, and drove the ulna bone clear down into my hand. Had to have the ulna shortened up, and bone grafts take a long time, then had to have the right radial head removed from the elbow, then there was the busted right scapula two years back, not to mention that over time, every finger on my right hand has been smashed, cut and stitched. (The thumb is still available for devastation). But I ain't gonna pull any punches; you've yet to see boredom!

Dirt - She's a forty-five pound Golden Retriever pup...I was rough-housing with her in the kitchen, got tangled up between her and the dog-gate my wife had set up to keep her from escaping to the rest of the house. Who's idea was it to get a second dog anyway...oh yeah, that would be me.

The dog had been returned to the breeder at five months after she proved too much to handle for her new seventy year-old owners (woman had fallen while attempting to walk her and broke her leg). The breeder, knowing we were looking for a second dog, called us and asked if we'd take her on. I should have been suspicious when he offered her up at 1/3 of his pup price, which included papers, all shots, micro-chip, and a travel crate.

A good gauge of her mind-set is her willingness to run full-steam through the electric "invisible" fence that circles the yard. Even at the highest setting she just puts her head down and blasts through.

We have to get her AKC and micro-chip paperwork transferred to our name. While we're at it we should change hers to "Wrecking-Ball"...she's leaving a trail of carnage through the ownership structure.

Healey, thanks for the laugh. Maybe you can write a book about your experiences with this dog. It might defray the costs if you're lucky. Beware of bargains!

Hopefully the doc has continued to write you lots of good pain meds. Remember, be sure to mix them with plenty of beer.

When our first Dane made his way down to the main highway and was killed at age 2, we bought the "Invisible Fence". Training the second Dane to the fence was easy. He didn't like the alarm going off in his collar, and I even tried to coax him across the line with a treat, but he didn't fall for it. So then, when my oldest son bought the house across the way, he put in "Invisible Fence" for his two dogs. One trained easily, the other would blast through chasin' a rabbit, (or a bird, or anything that moved). He turned the fence up to full power, but the dog would not be deterred. The fix was to put the other dog's collar on him, and two units would knock him down. He learned!! Then a new neighbor moved in beside my son's place; they had a new Chocolate Lab, and they bought "The Fence" too. Gotta have plenty of flags around the perimeter so the dog can recognize the boundaries. Now another neighbor across the main road has a new Harlequin Dane pup, and they live within 60 feet of the highway. No fence! I fear for that dog.

BTW, doesn't it suck tryin' to sleep with one arm up against the headboard, or over your head, or anywhere that you can't possibly get comfortable?

Try to have some fun with the wrecker.

We had a Bichon that would just walk through the electronic fence whenever she wanted.
Didn't run or do anything different from usual but if she wanted to go, she went.
The collar did work.
