My brother has been living in California for a number of years and finally strikes up a conversation with another neighbor down the street. They talk about sports cars and this guy shows my brother what's been sitting in his garage.
A 1967 XKE Jag! Sold it to my bro for 10K. I hate my brother!!

What's so amazing is that back in the 70's I actually owned the same year XKE!
But mine was a ragtop. I sold it before shipping off to the marines.
Regret it to this day.

As I recall it, if a guy had one of those cars, esp. the ragtop, he was as cool as it got, without exception. When he drove up, there wasn't anything else that needed to be said; he was obviously the smartest and coolest guy in town. On a college campus, such as in Ohio, he was nearly a god.

In one of the many car mags (Road & Track, maybe) there was a shot of a pre-production styling exercise of a coupe without any trim or such, and it was even better looking than the production version. My only close encounter was at a local body shop, and sitting in the driver's seat was a tight fit for me, but they were a H*ll of a good looking automobile. My real automotive piece of lust was/is the Ferrari Daytona coupe. When I started my first real job making about 5K a year, they could be had for 40K+. Couldn't get a floor mat for that these days! Couldn't afford Enzo's toy or the Jag back then, and still can't. At least I'm consistent!
