True. Beware of pulleys and the soft rubber belt climbing the sides and off.
Lionel Half-0 did a spring belt drive on pulleys to a pulley on a double worm shaft at the wheels. Allowed rotation of the truck around the kingpin without towers and u-joints. Have one or two someplace.

I rebuild HiF drives often. Did 5 or 6 couple of years ago for one person.

Gotta to the truck ground fix or they stuttered badly.
I've known HO guys who insisted that the rubber band drive Athearns were incredibly good runners when they ran in sets, for example an all-powered A-B-B-A consist of F7s. Apparently the different units smoothed one another out.... or so the guys claimed.

Understood. The best drive belts are flexible, but not stretchy. IIRC, most Hi-F slip is at the drive shaft. The smooth, small diameter shaft, essential to the speed reduction, didn't provide enough friction surface. Also IIRC, the Suydam spring belt pulleys had a knurled surface, to grip the springs.

And clubs who used HiF diseasemals on the point of multiple unit lashups. Faster, so on the nose, no gear bind....add as many as your power source can handle!
