About that cadmium - is that true of all paint? Piper Cub yellow is not the same color it was two decades ago. I just ordered a can for touchup, and it is so far mismatched as to be the difference between orange and yellow - same part number; vastly different color. I just thought it was an ornery new owner.

Pretty sure that it is true - toxicity of cadmium is pretty significant and as far as I know got pulled from all those lovely colors like Cadmium Yellow and the rest of the yellows and oranges. Coverage is really what I was referring to but tint is also probably altered. But about 40 years ago cadmium in all paints was very close to being totally banned. I'm not sure about "artists" paints as I think that might all that's left.

I'm calling this one done until I scratchbuild another one along with a few of the other XL camp cars. The more I looked into playing around with the paint, the more impossible it became..... Might do a bit of weathering to it, someday. In the meantime, on to the next in the queue!

Agreed. It has 50+ years of handling and use on it as well as a trace of my sprayed on black for the roof and new underbody may have snuck through my tape job,

I'm thinking a little streaking around all the windows and such, and the roof is pretty close to looking brand new for some odd reason,

The roof leaked and was repaired; of course management did not spend any coin on the rest of the car.

Possibly so, but I'd think that they'd minimize expenditure by just patching leaving the rest waiting for the next set of patches, not unlike many of the roads that we drive upon - patches on patches upon more patches

Next up on the hit parade is this gem of a passenger car that was thrust into my hands some time ago by somebody whose soul is in jeopardy!



Aluminum sides and ends; wood roof and floor. Betting that the floor is going to get totally replaced.....if only due to the heavy coat of paint it got dipped in.

Like to salvage that roof though......

BTW, any experts here want to fill me in on the origins of these castings/kit. etc?
