Whatzit?
Re: Whatzit?
Our local Parks and Rec. tried using holograms of dogs They built a floating platform in the middle of the lake. On this platform was some kind of noise maker and projector. It would bark and make a laser light show of running dogs. After 2 months the D.E.R. came in and shut it down. They claimed this was bothering the nature center's other animals. Now they have someone go around and replace geese eggs with cement eggs. The natural eggs are destroyed and momma goose sits on the cement ones trying to hatch them. after 6 weeks she gives up and flies away. Not laying anymore that year. If you only destroy her eggs she will lay more. Sitting on have a dozen cement eggs keeps her from laying replacements.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

If you were riding on the back of this creature, this is what you would see-

Whatzit?

Once I built a railroad, I made it run,
Made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad, now it's done --
Brother, can you spare a dime?

Re: Whatzit?
Chuck,
You show a Cetonia aurata. The whatzit is a Popillia japonica.
Never-the-less, you answered the question. The view from the back of many of the Scarabaeidae family is the same. Well done!
Many in the Scarab family also wear baseball caps with the bill facing front.

This one, when I got too close with the camera, tucked its antenna under the cap, extended out its long rear feet with a single sharp talon on the ends and pooped an amber liquid.

Some beetles flap their elytra when flying. Others hold them out steady, directing the air to the flapping rear wings as well as providing lift. Still others, like the two we are considering, keep their elytra back along their bodes for better streamlining.

Beetles are fascinating.

A partial view of a multi-scale meter face with bezel. Possibly a tachometer?

That is exactly what it is, tony. How did you get this whatzit so quickly?

And what model tractor is that, Wayne?
Restoration project, maybe?

Re: Whatzit?
With as bad of shape that tractor is in sitting out it the sun for a long period of time, I'm surprised that meter is in new looking condition. Not sure it is actually on that tractor

1) The sun seldom shines in Kentucky.
2) It was in the tractors dashboard when I took the photo on Saturday, July 17, 2021.
3) Does this image remove all doubt?

I spent 49 years in Tucson, Arizona. Tucson is one of the sunniest cities in the United States! It gets 350+ days of sunshine a year.
It seems like we seldom have a sunny day in Kentucky. On average, there are 189 sunny days per year in Kentucky.
Saturday, July 17, 2021, was claimed to be a sunny day.

Definition of sunny varies in different part of the country. Lack of sun in that state merely reflects its status in a host of other categories. Take heart, your moving there raised many if not all of them,

Had no doubt; merely asked about model of tractor - good restoration project for you!
