Save the EARTH
Re: Save the EARTH
Were rhinos once found in southeast Asia?
I thought rhinos were Africa only. ???
If not why is rhino horn a big deal there?
OK. I looked on Wikipedia myself.
There are still 2 species in Africa and 3 in Asia.

Yeah, that one gave me a chuckle. When uninformed, go ahead and say something anyway. I recently found I was wasting far too much time on the various forums I participated and started posting only when I had something to say, as opposed to what seems to be the more common approach.
Re: Save the EARTH
Murph, the Asians want the Rhino horn as they grind it up and eat it, as they believe it is an aphrodisiac. They spend any amount of money to get a hard on. Hard to believe a great animal like that has to die so some azzhole can have sex.

All totally true. It makes one wonder how they ever got such an idea in the first place . I mean, can you pitcture it, an Asian who feels he is penis-challenged is out on a hike / safari and comes across a poor, hapless Rhino, and tells himself that the horn he sees ought to do the "trick"
The egotism and self-delusion are prodigious but certainly not unique for the human race. Is there anything we haven't abused to the brink of oblivion?
Didn't that same nutty ilk also take a liking to consuming Tiger penis, doing so hoping for the same sort of prowess and "inspiration" ?

Burning: 3footballfield-sized areas per MINUTE of the Amazon.
This fire in The Amazon is a world crisis.
Its been called a "planet-cide".

And why is this a world crisis. The rest of the word has been burning down Forrest and clear cutting for farming for centuries. Every time a volcano erupts it does the same thing to the environment.
When the democrats get back in power they will save the planet by doing away with fossil fuels.

Because the Amazon produces a significant amount of oxygen for our atmosphere. Adding that to the Brazilians clear-cutting the Amazon for years, too, for farming, added to the other places on Earth that have been clear-cutting for industries, farming, and housing, and this huge, fast fire threatens to add a significant effect, scientists have postulated.
The cumulative-effect has become a concern.

Yeah, we sure did start clearing away those rich forests almost as soon as we all got here onto North America. O' course, that is what helped give us such lush farmlands and harvests, for our abundant food source. That land is so rich and productive, as I understand it, the federal government pays some farmers not to plant, at times.

The Amazon produces ~20% of the oxygen for our atmosphere. So while forests have been burnt for clearing for agriculture historically, that's has not happened on the scale of burning the Amazon which in area is roughly 1/2 of our country. It's a matter of scope and scale over time and this is more than just cumulative; it's several steps up the ladder is amount burning over a relatively short period of time.

Amazon wildfires get some help from US firefighting plane
https://www.foxnews.com/world/amazon-wi ... ane-brazil
A Boeing 747-400 Global SuperTanker aircraft carrying nearly 20,000 gallons of retardant, a substance used to stop fires, left the Sacramento-McClellan Airport Thursday night and arrived in Bolivia’s Viru Viru International Airport early Friday morning.
After its arrival, the aircraft began flying over devastated areas to help put out the fires and protected forests near the Bolivia-Brazil border.
Lets see if the rest of the world offers any help.
All Macron in France has done is threatened to cut off trade to Brazil

France is just a little further away and probably lacks anything close to the fire fighting resources and experience of the US that seems regularly plagued with trying to burn the US down with our own massive brush and forest fires every year. I have to wonder just what real impact 20,000 gallons of retardant will have there. Probably need a lot more planes than 1.
France is responding to the goal of what Brazil is trying to achieve by burning the Amazon. Can't realistically count on Europe to be doing anything from their distance
I'd be more interested in knowing what the rest of SA is doing to help. Then again, the lack of resources and experience is probably still an issue.

Re: Save the EARTH
I picked on France because Macron was going to lead the way on climate change by raising the fuel tax to cut down on fossil fuels. That was until the people rioted and he backed off. Germany shut down nuclear and went back to burning coal and now they have all the oil they can use from Russia with the Gazprom oil line through the Baltic sea.
The only thing the Europeans are good at it giving lip service.

Re: Save the EARTH
Whatever the problem is, it is probably the fault of the United States.

Unrealistic to rely upon them and really always has been so for over 100 years now. All the posturing and whining that they do not do their part just shows how little is understood about who, what, and where they are and that last 100 years. OTOH, many of them have supported the US in the Middle East now for well past something that should have been ended a long time ago. They also still let us have bases in in their countries unlike others that have kicked the US out. I guess if we keep complaining about having to carry too much, then maybe they will just walk away....and the US can watch the world burn denying it's happening.
