I think that back in Ancient Rome, there used to be storefronts of tanners with troughs protruding out into the street a little ways for men to urinate into. The urine was used to tan leather. Of course, that was the same society that used semen as a cosmetic, too, I'm pretty sure (saw it on TV several years ago in a series about the emperors, esp. "I, Claudius.")
