There are endless faux pas possible in a language with a different alphabet. To argue with someone is literally to "Chew his head off". A few misplaced characters that comes out all different.

OK, Jon, here's one for you. Hev insisted.
This 'do' was officially called the "58th Annual Threshermen's Reunion" These guys are serious farmers, salt of the Earth. This show was for them to congregate, see their lifeblood and heritage.
Always a couple of guys, though, who are the artists, who think outside the proverbial box.
THIS one was a jewel.
He made everything you see, including the cannon, (turned-wood), the gun carriage, the caisson, and all the accoutrements on the tractor. Lots of beautiful brass touches.
You'll notice that the operator levers are made from cavalry swords.
And you'll notice the pistol tucked under the gas tank!
On the other side, a brass bugle hangs!
And in between the driver's legs, a beautiful brass compass.
Even if it's 'politically incorrect' when north of the Mason-Dixon
, you have to admire the craftmanship 
!!

. Well, you know how wives are. You'll want to turn West, and she'll be trying to turn East. So it goes in most instances of matrimonial wrangling.
So in case you're wondering, the steering of both is bolted together as one.

Of course, if it were me and Hev were plowing with 'er, we'd be working in unity.

Great pics, Pete. You'll have to forgive me for being drunk, I been drinkin' all day, but that first pic looks like a perfect scale Civil War era 10 or 12 pound Napoleon caisson and limber. The only thing I don't see is the spare wheel mounted on the caisson. Real craftsmanship!

WOW, T & D! Beautiful!!
The show-folks have themselves a little steam-driven Shay, (with a loop track that runs through the showgrounds, one that I'd expect to see, in real life, moving mine-cars around, or such), with two passenger cars.
I neglected to get a pic of their honest-to-God wooden water tower. You can see an edge.
The gearing ran the trucks under the tiny tender.
Check out that beautiful whistle and brass bell..
Check out those beautiful gears!!
They had this thing running until maybe 10 PM, and they had a pair of old kerosene caboose lamps (yes, burning kerosene) on the rear car, and to see that thing's headllamp and marker-lights looming in the dark, rolling by with the hissing and chuffing and clanking of wheels drowning out the katydids, and then those caboose lamps and glorious noises receding in the distance, with the bell ringing at crosswalks, and the steam whistle in the distance....
It ran just feet behind Hev's table. Hev remarked, after maybe the 15th pass around, that he noticed that I continued to stare at it every time.
And yes, I did.
The smell of coal smoke and warm grease, and the feel of the heat going by...
Sweet.
I have a 20 second video of the Shay and it's gearing in action, that I took with my digital camera. If anyone would like me to e-mail it, drop me a line, and title it "Shay", so I don't delete it with all the offers for valiums, stock tips, and drugs to help me with my erectile dysfunction.
Be forewarned- it's 9 mb, but it also has sound. I play it with WMP.

Check THIS crazy item out!!
The motor is in the cab. You drive it by sitting on the roof of the cab, with your feet on the running boards. You steer it by rotating the handles, the speed dictated by how far forward you push the handles.
And you guessed it, pull the handles back, it goes in reverse!!
And all the kid-equipment on the back are ridable and functional.
Hev went NUTS about it. Hev's wife has a picture of Hev motoring it around. I missed that, so maybe they'll be willing to add this later.

I told them I'd pass the cup on the forum, and that it ought to be good for a buck-fifty or so! Maybe more, if the boys can give up their beer and cigars for a night.

BTW, we won't see Hev until Sunday, earliest. He was going to be at the show all day friday and saturday. Hev has his own table, and had 6 or 7 pieces of antique machinery of his own. They were getting a lot of attention from the old-timers, and here he is explaining something to a younger gentleman about his stuff. In the foreground, one of Hev's antique cultivators.

Nice gears!
To me, they look like chevy rear diff gears. A nice, elegant solution the the machineing problem of cutting heilical cut gears. A nice shay in all respects!
I envy younz, if gas wasn't pushing $3 I would make a visit down there!
I did make Twin Bridge last Friday, like most tractor shows this summer, the tractor attendance was down (hauling them gets expensive), but hit-or-miss was WAYYYYY up.
