Hev, you had it right. I was BS-ing. :D
We do have copperheads and rattlers (I have a nice pic of a huge local coppehead) but the only kinds I've ever seen on our property are garters, ring-necks, and two kinds of rat snakes- black snakes and milk snakes.

And here's why the kids are comfortable around snakes-

We have our own 50" corn snake, a VERY docile creature. For years, we've been taking him into their classrooms for demonstrations. It is unbelievable how many people kill harmless and often beneficial snakes out of irrational fear alone.

And the day Leah tries to pick up a snake without me being there, is the day she gets grounded until she's 30!

JHC, THAT's a SNAKE!

(I stuck this next thing on another thread, meant to stick it here).

Wife called me at work here to tell me a belching, smoking, hissing, whooshing and clanking apparition-on-wheels came looming out of the fog and pulled up out front, and the driver, (she said he looked like the Horseman of the Apocalypse  ), dropped off a box at the house. She had the kids and herself hid in a closet , but peeked-out as it receded, and saw the word "Frick" on the back.

"Frick"? Only know one dude drives a "Frick".
Hev, what the hell you up to now?
I find out at midnight!

Well hobos, I am the the VERY PROUD owner of a Hev-original!! :D 8)
Check it out-

Very cool, bro! I am very appreciative! Like I said before, you are one generous hobo!!
Nice work too. Do you sell these? I know you told me you can make them in other road names.

And thanks for the patch, too. I had no idea how three-dimensional it looks 'in person', with the many different stitches and textures. Man, I had trouble getting the 3-D to translate into a photograph! These might give a hint:

Look at the detail on the locomotive!!! 8) :D

I love it!! Again, my deepest thanks! :D

Look at the detail on the locomotive

They must have modeled it after a brass engine, because the boiler actually goes all the way around!!!! :D :D

Man, there's some serious design-work went into this. Look at the two-tone rails, the ties, the ballast! And the pipes and running-gear on the locomotive, the shadows on the exhaust stack and the sand-dome, the brass bell, and the exhaust smoke a diferent color from the clouds!

Raise a Glass

Postby Tramp » Wed Jul 05, 2006 4:16 pm

A fellow hobo, Rod Guthrie, has died. I received the news yesterday from his wife. If there was ever an honorary hobo it was Rod. I’m not going to list all his influence on our hobby—I’m sure the model mags will do that—but I wanted you to know a few things about him as a friend. He had so much strength, talent, energy, vision, ability, kindness and generosity, it doesn’t seem possible that he’s no longer physically with us. At least he leaves so much behind. He told me some great stories: making molds for Lionel, designing many Lionel operating accessories, Neil Young picking him up in Neil’s finned Caddy to show Rod his layout, his undefeated football season in high school, his different kit projects that many of you I’m sure have built, his three-rail track invention that was stolen by guess who? It goes on and on. Rod and I talked about him and his wife moving here to Maine so that we could build an ultimate layout on my third floor. I can only imagine how wonderful that would have been. How many wonderful evenings I had at Rod and Carole’s home near Springfield, Mass. Anyway, I just wanted to say a few words and raise a glass. To Rod, what a great guy, a talented modeler and painter, and an honorary hobo forever.
