I was just curious how they get a round object into a square space. Manual ones at least are generally shaped for better access.

Do better? No idea, but corners tend to be where stuff accumulates....we use a separate attachment to manually address such spaces

I have a $49.00 dirt devil. Works great. I can’t believe how much dirt it gets. I vacuum every other day and that thing sucks up a ton of stuff. I do have one complaint. You can’t turn of the beater bar. When i use the hose on the radiators. The bar spins and will burn the carpet. Simple cure is to have a piece of plywood handy. Lift vacuum, place on plywood and clean behind radiator.
I spend entirely too many hours a day tying my shoes

Even uprights and central vacs have problems with corners and yes the crevice tool is the tool of choice. The Roomba isn't the answer for all vacumm cleaning, but it's awful nice for running in between those heavy cleaning days. But, honestly, it does such a great job, the heavy cleaning seem to have gone from every week to maybe once a month. The do well on hard surfaces and carpet and make the transition between them without issue. You can also set up "Virtual Walls" that keep it away from areas or rooms you don't want cleaned. The also have a new generation model that my kids have at the office and it dumps the dirt from the roomba into a chamber on the charging stand and doesn't need to be emptied as frequently. Pretty nifty item that works well.

The throttle would have to be taped wide open for it to really be effective

Not sure about that saw, but that strip of tape would not hold most securely on top and with my saw it would be very top heavy.

Taping the throttle open would also render it close to impossible to control; torque from engine would override everything on directional control and probably flip it on its side.

Probably already at-home in some inner-city 'hoods.
Or soon to be, once some Homies and Hoodies see that idea. Yup.

Right...............have you priced a Roomba recently? Much more likely in affluent suburbia.

And it's in affluent suburbia where this sort of silliness resides.
