You're far enough north of me for the plants to be ~3 weeks behind. Frost warning though tonight  .
Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.

We got about an inch of snow yesterday late afternoon through the evening. Air temp is hovering around freezing. In a visually odd turnabout the sun was out this morning and all "hard" surfaces are actually snow free and dry. Vegetation and lawns are still snow covered but the snow is melting, slowly.

I didn't know they were Quaker ladies. I have them labeled Azure bluet (Houstonia caerulea or Houstonia serpyllifolia .)

I tried to make them more blue by waiting until after sunset to photograph them.
That worked. I still saw cool white but the camera saw light azure blue.

Mountain Bluets (Houstonia serpyllifolia), share characteristics with Quaker Ladies. Mountain Bluets differs by having oval-shaped basal leaves that creep across the ground. This latter species is found primarily in the Appalachian mountains*. Other common names of Houstonia caerulea are Azure Bluets and Innocence.

Digital cameras are quite remarkable but they can also be frustrating when their programs take over. We don't always know what specific pixel elements are being looked at or what the algorithm being used to detect light/shade/color elements for auto adjust.

I used to cary around an 18% gray card in my camera bag in case I needed really accurate color rendition. I think it was used once to match colors for a room wall. We were dealing with an architectural firm in Seattle and they had ridiculously strict standards for wall colors that were to be used in a donor building. I think we wound up buying something like eight gallons of paint (four for each trip) to paint 4'x4' test swatches that were photographed with the card and sent to them to get approval for the paint shade. This was long before Home Depot/Lowes and no one had a matching color fan deck to start the basis for the custom color. At least we didn't have to wait to get "film" developed. It was all digital and you could use the gray card as a standardized reference.

The building colors were insane. Our paint shop had a fan deck of nothing but "white". When they had to do some patch repair work from a roof leak they had to custom mix. Two painter were there with this three inch thick fan deck tying to match it. They finally gave up and took two samples to get blended to get a match!

Quaker Ladies, aka Azure Bluets, (Houstonia caerulea) have leaves with no petiole (leaf stalk), while Thymeleaf Bluets (Houstonia serpyllifolia) have distinct leaf petioles.

That's actually a pretty funny movie. The irony is that Wham is now a real product though it's not quite canned ham. It's a meatless ham substitute. I wonder if it's Kosher?

http://heritagehealthfood.com/ham/

The color selection process in the clip is almost too painfully true. For some reason they picked primary colors for the accent walls at the back of the lab. Red, blue, and horrific yellow that was actually closer to orange, almost cream sickle in color. The local powers that be decided green would be a better choice and we went through several days of email/telephone conversations with the "artists!" in Seattle. They finally settled on a medium sage green which has held up well. The only place they missed was the south emergency exit stair well which has faded horribly to a nasty yellow. Fortunately almost no one uses/sees that stair well!

What was the object that passed between the two separating parts of the International Space-station. It hit nothing; just passed by and between without incident. Its passage has all been recorded. Scientists will be taking a careful frame-by-frame look at it . This was reported on ABC News tonight .

One theory put forward so far is that it was "space ice." (?) Take a look. What's your Whatzit explanation ?

It wasn't the space station that had the near miss. It was the Dragon crew capsule. Just after separation from the launch vehicle apparently a piece from the the capsule came loose and then came back at the capsule and the departing launch vehicle. It flew between the capsule and the launcher.

I hate to include a Whatzit before the last Whatzit has been decided on but, before the flower quiz, can anyone tell me Whozit owns this railroad?
