It's actually a mod-mRNA such that it has an extended half-life in vivo to deliver adequate functionality. Not a protein, but code for protein.

No chance that it will become alive or "go active". There just isn't enough information for self replication.

Thanks for the clarification.

The main problem with RNA hasn't been toxicity. It's been that naked RNA is rapidly degraded after injection. Indeed, the messenger RNA in the vaccine has to be surrounded by protein/lipid so it isn't immediately destroyed by the RNase enzymes we all have. Thus the likelihood that this RNA is going to cause problems is very low. It's been extensively tested over about a decade. That said, side effects that are uncommon or take decades to show up aren't going to be detected in existing studies. Of course, the conspiracy theorists' claims that the injections contain microchips or change your DNA are complete idiocy and have no scientific basis whatever.

Since it looks like 1 in every 500-600 Americans at a minimum are going to die in the first year or two of the pandemic, the idea that the vaccines are dangerous is also complete idiocy from a scientific standpoint. The vaccines are almost 100% effective at preventing death according to tests in hundreds of thousands of recipients.

Exactly so. mRNA is designed by Nature to be short-lived. Besides being encapsulated to block degradation, there are also a few changes to the ends of the mRNA chain to inhibit RNase degradation. Pretty well known science that's been evolved for a lot of years now.

Well, sort term acute responses might be known now, but any chronic long term ones are off in the future just like a lot of approved drugs. We find out years later that something totally unexpected shows up

Of course, the conspiracy theorists' claims that the injections contain microchips or change your DNA are complete idiocy and have no scientific basis whatever.

Just goes hand in hand with the anti-science movement that's dragging this country spiraling downwards; the embrasure of cultured ignorance is really getting dangerous.

That all seems so obvious, but people still want argue and just make stuff up.

80 percent of us covid deaths are 65 or older. I'm not 65 yet. My chance of survival looks good based on math and science. None of the vaccines claim to " stop long term effects from covid. They only prevent death" I will take the wait and see approach. It would be nice to see some in charge start talking about the future growth and economy. downtown philly has lost 248 store fronts in the last 11 months.

So, you're going to bet your life that you're in the survival group under 65 then?

None of the vaccines claim to " stop long term effects from covid. They only prevent death"

That's misconstruing information. Those that are prevented from getting covid by a vaccine almost certainly do not have to worry about long term effects from covid; the vaccine can block your getting it - then long term effects from covid are not going to happen. There's yet another good reason to get the vaccine; prevent getting covid and since you did not get it, no long-term effect

I will take the wait and see approach.

Actually it seems that you are just very determined to find and contrive every possible excuse to not get vaccinated and protect yourself.

It would be nice to see some in charge start talking about the future growth and economy. downtown philly has lost 248 store fronts in the last 11 months.

That's really a rather different topic -- there's this nearly 2 trillion bill that the house passed that has funding for that, but I'd wager there's no magic wand solution to that problem and it's going to take years, possibly many years for that to recover. That hole was dug by people determined to do everything to avoid doing what should have been done last year. We're going to pay for that failure for many years. Sadly, today's society wants instant gratification since everyone is entitled to immediate attention and reward.

"everyone is entitled to immediate attention and reward."

And a significant number of people who confuse their personal freedom with the right to endanger everyone around them :). Good thing we didn't leave defeating Germany and Japan to individual decision making/personal freedom or there would be no freedom of any sort to worry about today. Idiots and ideologic know nothings, starting at the top (not the current guy).

You’re right. I don’t trust big pharma. Also i see states like Florida that stayed open. They basically have the same rate of deaths compared to states ordered to shut. With 46 percent of pa healthcare workers bot wanting the vaccine. That leaves me with very little confidence .

I think your reason is unsound. And the data may not be sound either. Lots of factors involved in death rate by state other than shutdowns. And I think the data on healthcare workers (meaning those who know something like doctors and nurses) is incorrect, and probably includes lots of folks without much knowledge, training or understanding. In our area 85% of physicians and nurses were vaccinated.

Sure. Somethings gonna get you. Better than being vaccinated, double masked and a shut in watching the exorcist for the 168th time.

Philly has a $450 million dollar budget deficit for 2021. Come March their restaurants will need to spend $40,000 for new air handlers. Restaurants will need to bring in X amount of cubic feet of fresh air an hour.

My mother in law and I got our first vaccine shots today at the new Cox hospital in Monet Mo. Go back on March 30th for the 2nd shot. According to the record card it was ( Moderna OLL A21A )

My mother in law is 99 years old. Turns the century mark on 5 21 2021. She is still in good health and does not look her age. Most people think she is 20 to 25 years younger. She only gave up driving a year and a half ago and sold her car. She was having some vision problems and that is why she quit driving.

Unfortunate; vision problems will do that.

I feel so lucky that what they can do now with cataract surgery, otherwise I'd not be driving.....or a lot of other stuff.

I hope none of you get macular degeneration. It is much more frustrating, at least to me, than the cataracts were. So far there is no cure or fix.
