Roger, sounds like possible neuropathic pain, due to irritation of a nerve. Not necessarily due to this specific vaccine, but due to an injection near a nerve. Talk with your physician about trying one of the drugs for neuropathic pain if this doesn't improve (gabapentin is one such oral drug). Hopefully you will improve just with time. Better a little pain than a fatal case of coronavirus. You made the right decision to get vaccinated. Sorry you are having such misery.

Last night and today, a little pain has been present in the left arm where I received the shot. Nothing debilitating, though. And certainly acceptable compared to what could happen absent having an inoculation.

Thanks,Neil. My doc said the same and gave me some medicine and it does seem to be less painful.
I hate shots but I don't want to die from something that looks like a red flower of some kind.
As seen on TV.

Six days since my second shot and my arm is about one third normal.
If booster shots are required in the future I may skip them.
Time will tell.

Once a person has received one of the two-part shots, can they get the new Johnson&Johnson shot after some time has passed , just for a little extra protection ?

And what about all those poor souls that have yet to have been vaccinated? You're pathetic.

Alas, I hadn't thought of that as part of the reality of it all. But thanks for setting me straight so nicely. I don't recall experiencing that much bile spewed at me in my life so far . Your mouth certainly made my visit and inquiry here worthwhile .
Thanks for the lesson.

Murph. I assumed you meant down the road as a booster. The answer is no one knows. Boosters will probably be needed if the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 persists, which it likely will. But no one knows for sure. The booster is more likely to be useful if it includes the antigens in the variants that are appearing, much the way the flu vaccine incorporates different virus strains each year. But again, no one knows. This is all new territory.

The good news is that if we could get virtually everyone to get at least one shot, we'd probably be close to home free. Unfortunately, a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding exists, and we are a country that puts individual freedom above the public good in many instances. But one can protect one's self and one's family/friends by doing the right and smart thing, which you have already done. I would definitely get the second shot when your appointment comes due. So far, the two shot versions seem slightly more effective, for one thing.

As for E7 he doesn't like your kindness and politics. Knee-jerk reflex :).

Neil, I appreciate the pertinence and pleasantness of your reply. Thank you.

Yes, I was seeking advice which attended to the physiological and medical points of view, not the sociological .

However, there is a certain fairness implicit to not getting any possible (?) further shot until the entire USA has been inoculated. If I were to seek additional protection, I think I'd wait, then, given the fairness factor .

Thanks, again, for your input. It was refreshing .

Indeed.

I am however finding a growing concern regarding long term effects post-recovery from covid that could be with us as a country for many years into the future.

Well, we really don't know 100% - there are no guarantees and there never have been guarantees from medicine. That's true for just about every medicine you've ever taken.

But that's why we do clinical trials and 10's of 1000's patients get tested before the FDA approves anything. That's also true for just about every medicine you've ever taken. Odd are ridiculously low with vaccines being future problems unless you are listening to the disinformation and misinformation that's being circulated.

"What's to say " long term effects from a vaccine wont be with us for years?""

There has never been a vaccine with long term effects, so that's one thing. Nothing says it couldn't happen, but it hasn't happened in hundreds of years of using vaccines. On the other hand, long term consequences of measles, mumps, rubella, smallpox, polio and COVID-19 are well known and common. Same goes for influenza by the way, just that nobody has bothered to document in detail.

All medicine is risk vs. benefit, whether it's penicillin or vaccines. Just happens that penicillin and vaccines are amongst the most effective and safest tools we have to prevent suffering, long term disability and death.

Yes, for widespread use in humans.

The technology has been around for a number of years. Publications on the promise and early usage to trigger immune response in cancer go back to 2010-2015. The mRNA is less likely to cause problems because it is only partial proteins designed to trigger an immune response against the virus. This is not a damaged/inert virus. It is literally a protein pattern on the spikes (the hooks/claws) that the virus uses to attach itself to cells. No chance that it will become alive or "go active". There just isn't enough information for self replication.
