And if they do, what does "exist" mean ?

If just want a bunch of opinions on the matter, my opinion is, "When your die you are dead, no ghosts."

And yet, we are told that Jesus, while still on His Cross, said to one of the crucified men hanging there next to Him, that on that day, he would be in Paradise with Him.
[Jesus did not say he would be in Heaven. Paradise refers to resurrection to a life on earth. By believing in Jesus, the criminal demonstrated meekness, not a haughty attitude like the other criminal. "The meek shall inherit the earth." We pray for this paradise in the Lord's Prayer, " Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.]

Also, "In My Father's house there are many mansions."
[John 14:2 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
Yes, if you are judged worthy to go to heaven, there is a room for you.]

And the episode on the water when Jesus assured the men there that He was not a ghost.
[And he was not a ghost, was he?]

It's too bad somebody didn't interview Lazarus. You would think somebody would have done so since he was the only one (?) known at the time to have come back from/been brought back from the dead. Can you imagine if such had happened today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cameras! The interviewers! The biggest question in the history of humanity, is there an afterlife, and nobody there thought of asking him about his experience!!!!? Or of writing down an account? Shheeeessh! :( :?

Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are plainly seen, and they are sexual immorality, uncleanness, brazen conduct, 20 idolatry, spiritism, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, dissensions, divisions, sects, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and things like these. I am forewarning you about these things, the same way I already warned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.

The apostles apparently believed in ghosts. Peter sunk for his lack of faith (a metaphor for not obeying the commandments.)

John 11:14 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead."

Jesus said that Lazarus was dead. What is the condition of the dead?

Ecclesiastes 9:5 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
5 The living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no more reward, and even the memory of them is lost.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do with your might; for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.

Murph, do you think Lazarus went to heaven after he died? If so, wouldn't that have been a cruel act on Jesus' part to yank Lazarus out of heaven to come back to suffering on earth.

Lazarus had no knowledge of an afterlife, he was dead. It was not a cruel act that Jesus performed.

Those brought back from death before Lazarus.

Elijah Revives the Widow’s Son

1 Kings 17:21-22 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
21 Then he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried out to the Lord, “O Lord my God, let this child’s life come into him again.” 22 The Lord listened to the voice of Elijah; the life of the child came into him again, and he revived.

Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son

2 Kings 4:32-37 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
32 When Elisha came into the house, he saw the child lying dead on his bed. 33 So he went in and closed the door on the two of them, and prayed to the Lord. 34 Then he got up on the bed and lay upon the child, putting his mouth upon his mouth, his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands; and while he lay bent over him, the flesh of the child became warm. 35 He got down, walked once to and fro in the room, then got up again and bent over him; the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36 Elisha summoned Gehazi and said, “Call the Shunammite woman.” So he called her. When she came to him, he said, “Take your son.” 37 She came and fell at his feet, bowing to the ground; then she took her son and left.

Others brought back to life.

Jesus Raises the Widow’s Son at Nain

Luke 7:14-15 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
14 Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, rise!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus[b] gave him to his mother.

Jesus Raises Jairus' Daughter

Luke 8:49-55 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE)
49 While he was still speaking, someone came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.” 50 When Jesus heard this, he replied, “Do not fear. Only believe, and she will be saved.” 51 When he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John, and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52 They were all weeping and wailing for her; but he said, “Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping.” 53 And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and called out, “Child, get up!” 55 Her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Then he directed them to give her something to eat.

I have no experience with ghosts but I do believe what I read in the bible, so I used scripture to discuss the concept of the living dead. You were less entertained than watching Groucho on You Bet Your Life, Rufus T. Firefly? Why am I not surprised? :D

Zombies? Really?

Why don't you focus that prodigious and interesting intellect of yours on how the Nazca Lines actually got there and for what true purpose ??????

Then you can offer something really smartazzed about why the figures on Easter Island are actually looking in the direction of where Atlantis was actually docked/landed (?)

Murph, be nice.

The Nazca people used simple tools and surveying equipment to construct the lines. Archaeological surveys have found wooden stakes in the ground at the end of some lines, which supports this theory. One such stake was carbon-dated and was the basis for establishing the age of the design complex.

The purpose was to gain favor from their many false gods.

Why so big? Perhaps the little images were not working...

So they decided to shout with the big images.

Why weren't the Nazca gods listenting? Because they were made up, false, powerless.

Remember Elijah’s Triumph over the Priests of Baal?
Elijah asked the priests to set up an alter for sacrifice to Baal.
Elijah set up an alter for sacrifice to a god named Jehovah.

The prophets of Baal called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, crying, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice, and no answer.

Then Elijah the prophet stepped forward and said: “O Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and that it is by your word that I have done all these things. 37 Answer me, O Jehovah! Answer me so that this people may know that you, Jehovah, are the true God and that you are turning their hearts back to you.”
38 At that the fire of Jehovah fell from above and consumed the burnt offering, the pieces of wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water from the trench.

It was a rhetorical question, Murph. Everyone knows who Rufus T. Firefly is. Of course he is entertained by anything Groucho does. :D

Good points, indeed.
I was looking forward, however, to a considered reply from him and other voices on this marvelously open-minded forum, notwithstanding any potential cynicism or mocking that might come forward . Learning new perspectives is worth the chance , IMHO .

And I definitely wasn't looking for any Sensus Fidelium from good ol ' Rufybabes. I know where to go for that.

Ley lines

If you know that, then you also know where Atlantis was and do not need my input.

Because they were made up, false, powerless.

Every subsequent religion attributes this to prior ones; it's how they prop themselves up to being the only correct one of their times. Gods exist until they have no worshipers...
