Yup, food residue is a no-no. Of course, with the delivery guys we have, there's so much of the pizza stuck to the box we just eat the box. Barely discernible from the pizza

Thanks, Dan. I had a feeling that was the case, unless it was the color-printing on the box. I really had no idea that bit of grease would be noticed by all the chemicals and mechanical processes involved in re-cycling such a box into a new paper product. Thanks again. Interesting.

"all the chemicals and mechanical processes involved in re-cycling such a box into a new paper product" should render that grease and/or residual food totally insignificant. Sounds like just another excuse.........

But, but the recycle truck comes to the house twice per month, and a guy reaches down and picks up what we have at curbside then tosses it into the wide-open rear of the truck. From what you have said, I do not get your point. They reach, toss and pitch. Where is the need for an excuse factor? :?

They don't want to be bothered picking up anything that's decided to be "unclean". However, the process to recycle really doesn't care about that at all.

Twice a month - is that all? Once a week here.

Don't know why it would be a problem to recycle oil jugs, if just for residue. Most of the plastics get shredded, melted down, color added, and turned back into pellets, then shipped back to plastic makers of all kinds. And the impurities get burned off in the process. I twice took loads of plastic pellets to a GM plant where they made dashboards and door panels. The pellets were in a dry bulk tanker and I blew them 75' up a pipe and into a storage silo. I've also delivered recycled plastic pellets to a plant that makes anti-freeze and their own jugs. We don't do enough recycling. Personally, my family goes thru a case and a half of bottled water per week, and we just burn the bottles 'cause nobody wants them back. Sooner or later the gov will make water bottles with a deposit. Probably already have it in all the New England states. At least then, there'll be somewhere to return the bottles.
If you agree with the Progressives, it's freedom of speech. If you disagree, it's hate speech. There are no alternatives.

Really? They pick all those up here in VA.

Don't stand down wind on burning that stuff,

The recycling in our little town is rather limited however they do take any kind of plastic, tin and aluminum cans, paper and cardboard of any type.
Pick-up is once a week.

I saw report on TV that said Victoria and Edward are the only two White Rhinos left on the entire planet and am wondering if Stem Cell Research will be enough to save them from the brink of extinction.

Stem cell research won't do anything - cloning, and harvesting sperm and eggs for artificial insemination will do it now that they have a pretty good understanding of how the rhino reproductive systems work. Apparently that was not well understood.

Rhino poaching has escalated in recent years and is being driven by the demand for rhino horn in Asian countries, particularly Viet Nam.

Rhino horn is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but increasingly common is its use as a status symbol to display success and wealth. Poaching is now a threat in all rhino range states, however as South Africa is home to the majority of rhinos in the world, it is being heavily targeted. More than ever, field programmes are having to invest heavily in anti-poaching activities.

Poachers are now being supplied by international criminal gangs with sophisticated equipment to track and kill rhinos. Frequently a tranquiliser gun is used to bring the rhino down, before its horn is hacked off, leaving the rhino to wake up and bleed to death very painfully and slowly. Poachers are often armed with guns themselves, making them very dangerous for the anti-poaching teams who put their lives on the line to protect rhinos.

It was on the news yesterday - baby northern white rhino - artificial insemination hosted by a southern white rhino parent.
