My original 300 Hellgate couldn’t handle double-track O...much too tight. Passing trains would clip each other or the sides of the bridge. It was really a standard-gauge set-up.

The 305 is about 3/4-inch wider, and has plastic inserts for mounting O-gauge tubular track. If you take out the inserts, you can use it for single-track standard-gauge. I hocked the original to buy this one and came out $200 ahead.

Someday I’ll figure out how to hinge it so I don’t have to crawl on my hands and knees to get under it to the center of the layout.

I remember seeing Norm's layout in O Scale Trains sometime ago. Sarge was editor then and received many, well at least some, nasty letters about showing 3R trains in a 2R mag. That caused me to write one of the very few letters to an editor that I have written. It was in his support. What was wrong with showing a beautiful layout? It had an extra rail. So what? If the 3R had been outside instead of between the rails it would have been acceptable. Norm's layout can be shown in any context and be seen as a work of art.
At one time I subscribed to or read almost every model rail magazine published. Today I will look over a few in the book store and buy if anything is of interest. I ALWAYS get OST. I like trains of all types and sizes.

Sorry for being as little off topic but that is me.

Roger, yes I heard that story as well. You'll notice that my articles are always rail-agnostic.

I wouldn't want anyone burned at the stake.

By the way, I've got an article in OST #102 as well!

I always look forward to OST and will read all of each one when I get them. So I will read your next article.
IMHO all of the writers for OST write very readable articles. I enjoy them all. It is the only mag to which I
subscribe to now. I used to subscribe to every train mag I could find.
I have read several O scale people mention another O scale mag that must have been well liked but has been
gone for some time. O Scale News?

I wrote to OST when Sarge was severely criticized by some letter writers in his support. I did receive several
e-mails from some telling me that I needed to stay with the 3 rail mags and stay out of 2 rail business. Some
of the comments were not very nice. I was surprised how angry some were about this.
I still read and comment on OST.

I support thread drift.
