I thought it might be appropriate (in a Rufus twisted sort of way) to have this forum discuss that forum, particularly:

http://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/topic/the- ... 2402601114

Take a look at page 5, in particular the poster named OKHIKER.

That entire thread has been getting funnier and funnier as it goes on and I suspect that it will disappear shortly, too.

Silly as it might seem, OKHIKER might have just unveiled the Emperor sans wardrobe and done so with strobe lights and cameras rolling!

Save this one soon because those electrons are about to get disturbed!

Here's what OkHiker had to say:

OGR Webmaster posted:
eddie g posted:
Rich, What I said about the member halls had nothing to do with the public.

I KNOW THAT! That is precisely my point.

Telling me that a few member halls were crowded means NOTHING in the context of evaluating the public attendance at this show, which is what this thread is supposed to be about.

I have been attending the York show/meet now for fifteen years and I go to enjoy myself and savor the toy/model train experience. Unfortunately, when I read threads like this I think I just attended the meet from hell, especially when I read responses where the OGR Webmaster is screaming at another poster because he disagrees with the context of the individual's post. Witness the red highlighting and bolded/underlined statements in his post. Get a grip for God's sake. Also, I would think that an individual who supposedly possesses a high degree of business acumen the Webmaster should recognize the tax implications of allowing non members into the member halls. In my earlier post I referenced the fact that the Webmaster over the last several years has several times said he was thinking about pulling out of York because he thought it wasn't worthwhile for OGR and has constantly complained about what a poor meet/show it has become and now he is complaining about boxes being brought in and taken out of the orange hall. Additionally, he doesn't seem to care one iota about the success the member halls were experiencing during this meet/show. His focus is entirely on how he perceived OGR was treated and its economic bottom line regardless of how successful York may have been in overall terms. News Flash!!! York isn't just about OGR but about the entire toy train hobby including vendors selling in the member halls. If you want out then by all means go because I don' t think too many people will miss the whining, bellyaching and name calling.

And I thought the OGR webmaster was retiring

You'll see the tax exempt status dropped on club sales soon. It's happening in my line of work. (antique furniture)

Yes, PA wants that money....

Probably will be out scouring yard sales all over the state wanting to see the sales records of homeowners soon and then nailing them again on their PA state tax forms for the income.

How will we handle it when we go "Coinless"?!?!?!

Here's a report from the BBC on what South Korea is doing:

South Korea is starting a trial which could result in banishing its largely worthless coins from the country's economy.

Starting on Thursday, instead of accepting small change from purchases, customers at selected stores can instead opt to deposit it onto prepaid cards such as transportation cards, the Yonhap news agency reports. This means that customers won't have to carry change in their pockets after making cash payments, the Bank of Korea (BOK) says.

Some of South Korea's major convenience stores are taking part in the scheme and, if the initial trial is a success, bank officials plan to allow change to be remitted straight into bank accounts by next year. According to the Korea Herald, nearly two-thirds of people surveyed by BOK say they don't carry coins any more, with half of those polled supporting plans for a coinless society.

One of the major drives behind the move - apart from the convenience to the public - is the cost of producing the coins balanced against their actual value. The lowly 10 won coin represents the equivalent of around half a British penny; while the largest value coin is 500 won, worth around 35p, or 44 US cents. The lowest value bank note is 1,000 won. According to BOK, the country spent 53.7 billion won ($47m; £36.7m) on producing coins in 2016.

Cha Hyeon-jin, one of the officials behind the scheme, says that while no long-term decisions have been made, there's a "good chance" that going coinless could eventually lead to a totally cashless society in South Korea at some stage in the future.

The report says their coins are "worthless". Maybe, but I don't think ours are all that worthless.

Who's going to benefit??? I suspect the vendors and banks, the buyer rarely comes out ahead. How will the train vendors "round" their sales, up, down, sideways?

I've always hated the $***.99 sales ads, just round it off to the next highest $$$

In many ways we are already moving this way and it's generational - younger generation use little cash and everything is either on a card or on their phone.

2-3 years ago when I took a big bag of quarters to the bank to get them counted (free at TD), the young lady behind the counter was unable to grasp how it was even possible to have coins at all, let along a close to $200 of them to deposit. Currency in hand even from a bank teller was a near alien concept.

Round everything to minimize ever making change!

There's a very good reason for those $***.99; there's a very real psychological loosening of the wallet with those numbers not unlike the one that keeping a price on an item to the minimal number of paper bills makes that item sell.

I rarely carry cash anymore. I throw all my coinage into a bowl, seems to be getting less and less every month.

I walked out of the pro shop at the GC Monday and spotted a dime laying on the sidewalk just outside the door. I wasn't going to bend over to pick it up but figured, well...at least it isn't a penny

Maybe, but probably not - you just are not consciously aware of it all the time - marketing and advertising departments have this sort of manipulation nailed down tight.

There you go! Cashless.........

Some stores allow you to pay by smart phone. I think it's called Apple Pay. Or you can down load an app. For some stores, place money into some account and scan your phone while checking out.
Twice a year pa's tax department walks through a local flea market handing tax collecting forms.
While selling in Texas. One of my customers came back wanting an exit form. Without this Texas department of taxation would not let them with merchandise. then taxation came to me to explain how it works.they handed me a slip to fill showing tax was paid.i told "no tax was paid. This man is restoring that item for me it's not sold " same thing is happening in Baltimore and Miami.

So I take it that a federal sales tax wouldn't work in lieu of the current tax system??? I guess there's always a work around

Oh Noooo!!! They would get their cut as always in addition to the Fed sales tax.

Besides, Andrew Jackson/Trump would have no part of that and could cypher out a way to avoid conflict

Paying taxes could be so easy...EVERYBODY pay 20%, not deductions, just a straight 20%. Of course that would eliminate a bunch of federal jobs and paperwork, but all the accountants who make a living doing peoples taxes would be hurt. It would give the treasury enough $$$ to fund any project (military or otherwise) they want. But it still may not be fair to all. A National sales tax would hit everyone who purchases anything, fair to everyone. If you don't buy anything you don't pay. Of course it may bring back the barter system.
