I've often marveled when somebody has built a round building (ever since seeing the Pantheon, in-person, which was built as a way to visit a variety of gods [rush-in; rush-out] during your busy day in the cosmopolitan metropolis). Not making rectangular or square structures is so out-of-the-box  that I admire the conviction, commitment, and unique mindset involved in doing so. Yet, I suspect there can also be a practical reason (Seattle's "Space Needle"; everyday silos attached to barns,) behind the departure from simply following the norm.

I wonder if that round building in your latest photo had something to do with storing grain or coal more easily, i.e. depositing and removing contents without having to dig into pesky corners (?) Easier to air-out? Less dampness?

Isn't there an egg-shaped super-modern building in London? Is just being different enough reason to be round? :D

These are my thoughts on your conversation-piece, Rufy-babes.

I have seen round grain and corn storage buildings, silos, but the one in the picture seems to have an open window. ??

Perhaps strange to some, but it's probably just a barn - round barns are not uncommon in PA and they also had/have windows.

There's one I drive by just West of Gettysburg and just for fun, here's another one over in Centre County: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neff_Round_Barn

and more about the country that were round, octagonal, etc.....

OKAY! Of course.
By the way, there is a small town just outside Morehead, KY that is named for Clearfield,Pa.
It was home of the Clearfield Lumber Company and the base for the Morehead and North Fork Railroad.

Wow, Thanks, Rufus, for the connections to the Neff barn and "The Road Less Traveled" collection. What an education!

I have been told that round barns allow the cows to see each other, ("parked" as it were, as locomotives in a round house) and that makes them happy, which makes them produce more milk. Dunno if it's BS (or CS) but it sounds reasonable.

Somehow and in some way, that makes sense to me, a guy from Pittsburgh , NYC , and suburban NJ.

And here I thought they were round so you could put the string quartet in the middle to serenade the cows.....music does affect production.

Well, then, given what's been said altogether, perhaps its a theater-in-the-round, available for all sorts of enjoyment, such as: romps in the hay; mooning around; making hay while the sun shines; giving one another cow eyes; hurling cow pies; pumpkin slinging; milking it for all it's worth; veal chops; rump roasts; plenty of BS (though by appointment only). Oh, and finding that proverbial needle (though I can't think of what one would be needed for.)

Corny rambling over.

It's just an excellent way of avoiding any out of plumb corners.
