The CVRR used to pass right in front and that's the RR where the poles are, not a road. That stone pillar structure to the far right is where the train stopped at the school. I have a book of commuter tickets to Shippensburg in my collection of CVRR items that a student might have used.

Interesting (modelgenic?) power plant in the center-right middleground.
Looks more like a steam-heat power plant than an electric power plant
judging from the lack of a pole line up to the school buildings.

And the trees on the path uphill from the station to the school seem to have
grown a bit when the picture you posted on Jan 31 was taken. That station
building is also very modelgenic. Could be just the thing for an interurban
line or, as in this case, a commuter/local steam railway. Does the
building still exist?

Almost certainly steam-heat...

Probably so - that earlier card was from what is indexed as one of the Early Unnumbered cards - not sure of when that photo was taken.

Yes, that little station / portal stone structure is nice - would make an interesting interurban stop. No idea if any of it is left today. That area is certainly not open anymore!

I think that this might just be the grand entrance from the road to an early 1800's Federal and then Colonial Revival manor house up on the hill where you had to climb the steps to enter into the presence of lord of the manor. Not the best photo as well - odd since most of the Laughlin cards are better framed and presented - I have 2 copies and neither is in the best of condition as well; oxidation issues.... You can find out more looking for Corker Hill - still there in Scotland......Pa.

That photo of the Normal School campus in Shippensburg, PA reminds me of my university in Ohio, perhaps, influenced architecturally by the same era and viewpoints about constructing and establishing such places (?)

1845? Hmmmm.......1st college I was at was founded in 1832 in PA. Couldn't afford to go there now!
